Front Speaker Issues

I have a 1997 Prelude and I am having a hard time getting front speakers to fit. I got some nice Sony Xplod 6.5 inch speakers but they wouldnt fit. The plastic piece that held the factory speakers in had to go. I cut that out but then the holes didnt line up. Does anyone have a 5th gen that replaced thier front and if so how, with what, and did you have to have some bracket?

I ran into the same issues. So I took some time and took a shot at some fiberglass work. Took me about 8 hours on each side, but it turned out pretty decent.

holes rarely line up when replacing 6 1/2 inch speakers...just use a drill with a screw guard/catcher so u dont poke a hole in your speakers and screw into the plastic with your own screws..... its fairly easy just apply a little pressure and u can screw right into the plastic...

I'm having the same problem... but a bit different. I'm putting in a pair of Fusion 6.5"s but the lip of the speaker is too big to fit into the recess for the original.... I'm hesitant to cut, and even if I did, what would I cut?

i cut out that whole circle, then i just dumped it in there, the speaker magnet and the stock cover hold it in securely enough,

unless your going to run 6000000000 watts speakers that are gonna shake like all hell, youll be fine if you do it this way!

Your talking about the catch that is supposed to hold the back of the speaker right? My speakers have a lip that is just big enoguh where I can't even get them in past the edge where the stock speaker cover sits.

take a dremel tool and cut the sheet metal! Its not that hard. You have to make the hole bigger if it doesnt fit in the hole...

If the mounting locations dont line up take a drill and drill new ones, no one sees the sheet metal under the door liner anyways.

Get some touch up paint and cover where you cut though, bare metal + any moisture is gonna mean rust!

Cut out all the plastic. Build you some MDF baffles and mount them directly to the metal door skin. You can make your baffle as thick as needed to clear the driver depth. This will give you the best sound out of your front mids. Second option is the pods like JayKnight did. Mounting the speaker to the door panel on the platic is the least optimal to get the most out of your front mids.
