Hi Guys n Gals!
I would like your opinions on stock speaker replacements. I have just
had a deck installed, and the speakers are blown. I won't be happy
until I replace them...:frown: I'm not going to install a subwoofer
system, but I would like speakers that'll put out some base, as well
as mids and highs that's not going to empty out my pockets!
Any suggestions would greatly be appreciated!

You know if you have a 5th gen prelude you have to get all the speakers rewired or they will blow out for some reason. Just thought I would through that in the mix.
Oh and do NOT get rockfords they blow goat balls

maybe mines special? they didn't blow, but i liked my new speakers so much that i usually just throw the fade on the rear ones, but the fronts haven't blown even so.

it might only be the sh ludes that do it because they have a mic built into the speakers that take out distortion

I have a 3rd gen Lude. Right now sometimes the speakers fade in and
out like a wire is loose. I get annoyed with that "blown" speaker sound
when just a lil base hits...lol. Thomas are you running an amp to your
speakers?

it's because of the stock amp, which most people don't know about. there's a great writeup on how to bypass it somewhere. I'll try and find it.

Haha! I did check out Crutchfield! I was looking at the Alpine S series
speakers. Do you guys prefer 2-way speakers or 3 way speakers? In my
other car, I have Infinity Ref's up front, and Pioneer 3-ways in the rear
sides. They both don't give out enough bass, but I have subs, so I don't
need bass from the 5"x7" speakers

If you're looking for pretty good quality and sound for a pretty cheap price then i suggest going with Pioneer, but if you have the money Memphis, Polk, and Alpine make some really nice componet speakers.... since you have a 3rd gen then it takes 6.5s in the doors and rear deck, i have prestige 2 ways in my rear deck for good solid mid notes then i have pioneer 3 ways in the door for the highs along with 2 1" dome tweets to crisp it out, they're mounted on each door where the side mirror bolts are

no amp for me, i took out my cardboard rears and dropped in the jensens, nothing will technically say its for the prelude some say Honda or the civics but as long as is a 6x9 i think it is it will work.
no amp, each speaker is a 200 watt with a sub in the middle, they're quiet nice, plus audiovox, cant go wrong. maybe thats why they didn't blow. 200 watts is more then the head can power right?
EDIT: i didn't do the doors yet, those are next. but ill probably go Jensen's again to complete an all around sound. anything is honestly better then the stock ones though, when mine came out i noticed the middle cone was ripped, that was noo good.
with the Jensen speakers and i assume other speakers if you put the Honda cover back over it, you'll probably have to loose some weight on those speaker covers because your gonna have to trim some of it off.
Hope this helps!

hrm...I installed a Pioneer 4900IB deck for the blue led lights to match
the lude...LOL. The HU runs 22rms per speaker...

Yeah, I noticed that it's pretty thin on the doors, and covered with a
thin material. I felt underneath and felt the speaker grill. Can I take
that out and just use the speaker grills that will come with the new set
of speakers? All 4 are blown in my 3g...:frown:

i should just dump my 500 watt guitar cab in my trunk and hook it up to a HU hahaha.
im unsure as to what you should do im sad to say "/ Its times like these you may have to make your own decision and go for what you want.
Response: NEVER throw away anyparts until your all done. even then keep them around until your SURE that everything works.

Ahaha! If you did that, then you'd REALLY rock! Most likely, I won't do
the installation. I'll prolly take it to the guys that did the system in my
other car for the doors, but I can do the rear deck....I think...

you dont have to use the speaker grills that come with them for the door speakers, the black speaker covers on the outside of the door panel keep them from getting messed up

i don't know what the rear deck looks like in a 3g, but in my 5th i unbolted 4 things, unscrewed a little modual from the old speaker, and reconnected the wires and i was booming, theres a DIY about the doors somewhere around Here. search before you unnecessarily spend money!

The rears are 6.5", and so are the doors. I'm one of those types that
won't put the door panel back on right if I did it myself...LOL!!!

eh its not really that hard, it takes me about 5-10 miniutes to take the door panel off and put it back on, but of course i could also probally do it blindfolded if i had to because i've done it soo many times....

Thanks so much for taking and posting up these pics of your speakers! They're 6" x 9" s? I went down to Best Buy yesterday after work to have
a listen to some speakers. I listened to the Alpine S, the higher level
Alpine's, the Rockford's, and the Infinity's, but the ones that blew me
away were the Pioneer 2-way, and 3-way. They sounded so "full."

You most certainly dont have to replace the wires. There is no mic or anything like that. The 5th gen Preludes have a small amp that runs the rear speakers and the factory rears are all the rear speaker you need to have. If they arent blown dont waste the money. If they are disconect them and put the money toward a sub woofer. Money better spent. For front speakers don't buy anything cheaper than 100 bucks. Garbage. Period. Installed a few of them. Most often the stock speakers sounded better. Economical speaker that drops in VERY little modification needed if any... Boston SX65 great speaker. Name another speaker with Butyl rubber surround, polypropylene cone and a 3/4" silk dome tweeter for 159 bucks. Good luck. Super smooth, nice, flat ferequency response very rich sound. No high tinny, plastic "tweeter". Put a 199 dollar JL Audio A2150 to them, FANTASTIC for the money invested. Trust me Ive done a full spectrum of installs from cheapo to Boston SPZ 1300 dollar speakers in my Prelude and those speakers are the best, most cost effective way to spend your money.

Dose any body knows if this will work for the 4gen because those metal tubes that run to the trunk are right underneath the speakers on mine??
