My buddy Ryan gave me a call yesterday night while i was at my little sisters birthday, asking if i wanted to do some driving. Naturally i was up for the adrenaline and we met up at a gas station in town.
Now first things first, i live in Candia, N.H. A town of about 1,500 people. If you drive even more north, then it gets worse. So we decided to head north on highway 89. After about an hour, we found a perfect closed down service road in the middle of nowhere, leading up not a mountain, but a pretty big hill. We drove up nice and carefully to get a feeling for the turns, watching out for tight corners, that if we didnt know were there would probably kill us, and made it to the top. The road was perfect, perfect condition pavement, perfect turns.
As much as me and my buddy love to go fast in a straight line, we cant help the fact that G-forces around turns, give just as much adrenaline. So we pretty much did a Touge battle. It wasnt as hardcore as professional ones by any standard, but IMO it was a touge battle.
Now keeping up with my buddy isnt hard. He owns a 1988 Mazda Rx-7 turboII , which is an extremely nice, and fast car. But as of right now, i can walk all over him in a straight line with the h22lude because he has horrible compression. A brand new rotary should have anywhere between 95-105 compression in both rotar housing. His front rotar (the one which has normally better compression) has 85. The rear rotar has a comression of 55. Basically he is just pushing fuel out the second housing into the exhaust. (yes hes going to do a rebuild, and im helping to learn more about rotaries!!!)
Anyways, it was effin amazing. Both our cars were handling ridiculously, thanks in part to the perfect driving conditions. And driving like that comes naturally to both of us. I guess theres something about being in 3rd gear at 85, letting off the gas, listening to the backfiring, going around a corner listening to the tires barely screeching, that makes adrenaline as plenty as water in our systems.
Safe driving everyone, have fun...
