several moths ago i had prob;ems with my carbs...the floats stuck...i thought i remove all the vac lines but found out the car wouldn't run so i just finished re-connecting all the vac and electrical...the car starts good, the choke works however, there is a terrible stall, stumble, bogging at take off...once you get moving it does fine...i have not been able to find any vac leaks and the car idles well just as soon as you put her in gear and accelerate it bogs til it gets moving...any ideas what the problem mat be

it's like it's starving for fuel or flooding out i don't know which or what to check

What did you do exactly?

Did you replace the carbs or fix the floats? What do you mean you removed the vacuum lines and it didn't start?! haha Be a little more specific on what was done before so I can give you a little more insight. It's an auto?

I know I had a very similar problem with mine recently.

Have you taken the air cleaner box off and drive it around like that? Try that and see if it still chokes. Now the other thing I believe may be some wires that may be connected wrong. Or maybe they are touching with another set. They go from the carbs off to the passenger side. I'll take a photo for you to see what I mean. There are three wires and if they are connected wrong the car will struggle when taking off.

I'll get the photo for you too see. And give us some more info as it could be something else.

Good Luck with it, It's a hassle messing with these damn cars. But I always find it worth it.

Okay here are the photos. Make sure the wires match in colour.

Good Luck with it, It's a hassle messing with these damn cars. But I always find it worth it.

i removed the carbs...as you know, i had to remove a lot of the vac lines to get them out of the car...i discovered when removing the float bowls that the drivers side carb had trash in it that was jamming the float...all i did was clean the carbs with carb cleaner and re-installed them...originally when i put the carbs back in the car, i plug'd all of the vac ports and lines hoping the car would run better without all the smog crap connected but found out quickly it was getting too much air and not enough fuel so i reconnected all the vac lines and i am where i am now...the car runs very well except for that bog, stumble at take off..

there are no vac leaks, the car idles very smoothly, no fluctuation, etc and runs very well once past the initial start up

i believe the wires you pictured the one's that go from the aircleaner...correct?...if so, i confess, i've been testing the car around the neighborhood since working on it without having those wires connected and usually with the air cleaner off for convenience

and yes sir, it's an automatic with 107k miles

It's a real hassle with those hoses isn't it? =P A nightmare. . .much respect to you for getting that done. I think my old carburetors would have worked with a little cleaning as well.

And yeah, connect those wires, they adjust air flow or something like that. It's insane how a couple of small sensors can affect the car so much. I'm really hoping that's all you need done. Good luck!

well not good news...i put the air box/filter back on and connected the remaining 3 wires and the car actually runs much worse at idle now and it didn't help with the take off stalling

You have the correct timing? Sure the wires are connected right?

Try it without the air box on and the wires connected.

I'm really not too sure my problem had been resolved. I've still tested it without the air box.

But try this first. Adjust the timing and idle with everything together. I'm positive you have all the vacuum lines connected properly so that couldn't be it. . .How's the accelerator pedal? Maybe the throttle cable needs adjusting too? That affects the idle as well. I'm sure you know. . .

But I remember when i changed my carburetors the throttle cable needed adjusting. Maybe since you're working with the same ones it's fine. But it's just something to consider.

i believe i have some vac lines connected wrong...there are no open ones but i'm gonna start over and spend another day and 1/2 trying to insure i have the vac lines connected properly

the accelerator linkage and timing is good...i feel certain it's my plumbing...i may never get this thing back together and i haven't been able to find anyone that's willing to work on it for me

i'll keep you posted

Well guess what?!

I've found that I continue to have this problem. . .

I'm thinking it could be the inner vent solenoids or maybe the fuel pump. . .

Who knows maybe my plumbing is wrong as well. lol

Weird thing is when the air box is off it doesn't seem to do it. . .

Prelude85

Ignore the text, it was for another problem. lol

But the thing where those hoses are coming from may be your problem. "inner vent solenoid" I switched back to my old one and it's stopped the choking.

well..i'm throwing in the towel...i give up...i'm certain or as certain as i can be that the vac and electical is properly connected but the car still bogs and stumbles takling off but runs well once rolling...i've stopped at every shop withing 50 miles of home and can't find anyone willing to work on it for me either

what's a girl to do?

Prelude85

Did you replace the inner vent solenoid?

It's a bit of a hassle cause you need to take out the base for the air cleaner but after you do that you can unscrew those two solenoids that are connected. Try that before you completely give up.

If you want some photos of what I'm talking about exactly I can, but let me know cause it is a hassle to do. . .=/

i can't imagine the solenoid went bad from just removing and replacing the carbs....i've already bought a 2nd set of carbs to get nowhere...i'm gonna have to try and find someone that will try ti fix it for me...i'm all out of patience

You sure a wire didn't get caught and ripped? I was surprised to see that's what happened with mine.

It is a frickin hassle, man. I know it is. You fix all this chit and you're sure it's gonna work then some other stupid thing goes wrong and you just want to kick the hell out of it cause it's so damn ridiculous.

It's like I did this and that and it's still being a pain in the ass?! When does it end?! Truth is it doesn't ever end. . .

If you're really dedicated to the car then I always find it to be worth all the trouble. For me no other car does it. I've drivin a 350z around quite a bit lately, and that doesn't do it. I barely got my ish fixed and legally smogged last Thursday.

I've been trying to get it fixed for smog since May. . .during that I've had all kinds of stupid crap happen. Stupid flat tires, burnt out headlights, mother effn fuel leaks, and of course trying to figure out why the hell didn't she pass smog!!

But when you finally get your chit together, it's great. Nothing beats it. Unless you don't really care then you can junk it and get a new car. lol

the cars woth fixin...i can't post pics yet or i'd show you...it's really nice, clean and runs great...except for now...i shouldv'e never ripped out all that vac stuff...i'm certain it's in one of those lines but i can't find the one that's causing the problem

i also have n 87 CRX that i bought with a bad carb and i still have never driven the car other than around the neighborhood testing it...i've had 3 honda carbs and pulled 4 good weberes from my BMW 2002's and i still can't get it to run wide open throttle

Yeah, sounds good. Think you got one more post before you can post photos. lol

Maybe you'll just have to take it all out and do the lines all over again. You have the diagram for the lines? It looks like a mess but it's actually pretty easy to follow after your eyes adjust. lol

And you have the webbers? Awesome!! I'd love to have those on my Honda. I don't know much about their workings and using them on these cars. But I really want em!
