ok so i posted this on PP but no one wants to reply to it on there so i figure i'd try on here where people appreciate thing kind of ingenuity a lil more.ok since i decided to go turbo, i was tinking of somewhere to put my boost guages and what not where its not gonnanot gonna look all crazy and raced out in case i wanna keep it low profile sleeper or dont want attention from the cops. i figured i could move my digital fuel and temp. guages over towards the passenger side a little bit and put my boost guage and all that fun stuff behind that peice of glass so you dont really see them until you turn the car on and they light up. has anybody tried this or would anyone like to give me any feedback on something i might have missed...i thought it was a pretty slick idea

If that falls through the more common thing to do is remove the ash tray and make a custom housing or you could cut the ash tray up and hide them in there. Good luck with that turbo build. :tongue2:

It does sound sick though...you sure you have enough depth behind the cluster?
pretty innovative if you ask myself

you could make panels on angles to place in your glovebox and have them in there, that way when you close it nobody knows anything lol.

the glove box sounds like a good plan actually, but i saw try your depth on the dash first! will look sick there.

thanx for all your guys support, nodoby seemed to give a flying **** on PP.lol. and as for the turbo build, i'll be posting a thread on preludepower.com because the person who sold me the kit wants me to make a thread so he can follow up to see hwo everything goes, plus theres a bunch of people on there willing to help and all and i dont really feel like keepign track of 2 threads. but i might change my mind if more people wanna see it. anyways...as soon as i can get the guages ill try it out, if anyone sees any good deals on some guages shoot me a message, they gotta glow though for ym idea to work. thanx again

Hey, we would love to see your Turbo build. We got our own turbo expert in Twokexlv6coupe :yo:
...try the autometer gauges, they are pretty good as im using one. The DEFI gauges are pretty nice too. Im sure you can be creative, hell, turbo'ing a car is creative enough, you can come up with custom gauges that shine through...

yea i think i will do a thread on here, i've noticed that yea PP does have alot more people that post and all, but i also noticed that preludezone is more like a second family, everybody knows everybody, theres not all the flaming that goes on in other forums, its just an overall good place to discuss things and get quality information instead of hell for what you think is a good idea. and how would i design my own custom guages? sounds complicating

i seen a turbo CRX ane he had his boost and egt gauges mounted under his steering wheel with a black housing and everything, i didn't even know they were there untill i sat in it, if you're going for that sleeper look and you cant fit them behind that panel (which you should try because that would be SICK) then you could always mount it under the wheel, but he did have an aftermarket steering wheel in it that had the bottom half open, not sure if it would work too good with the stock wheel, but just an idea!!

10-04-2007, 10:14 PM
well i kinda figured it out cuz i just looked like somewhere a speaker woiuld be. haha. but i have had some dumb moments like that. butt once u start takin **** apart, thats when u notice all the wonderful stash spots on the lude. obviously the person who owned it before me thought so too, i found a dime bag in a slit in the carpet under my seat when i was cleaning it out a month after i bought it. hahaha

Well if he has a 4th gen like I think he does, there is not even room for a thought in the glovebox. I used to have a 4th gen and the only thing the glovebox was good for, was my insurance and registration papers. Anything else in there was a bonus.
Now I haev seen people put a video screen behind that plastic piece, so with a little patience, and careful planning it could work.
Hook it up and show us what you did.

to have the gauges in the middle of the dash you're gonna have 2 move your gas and temp gauge to the right and prob. just loose the clock :frown: cuttin and putting in the gauges is quite easy everything else is gonna be some work! good luck on the mod

man... thats gonna look so sick when ur done cuz those other pics are pretty sick w/ the gauges in the center of the dash rather than on the a-pillar! just make sure to take lots of pics and make a thread... maybe even a diy!

ok so i pulled off the dash peice and all and really realized that this is gonna be a bitch. first i realized that on the backside of the clear peice is a black peice that only give room for the fuel and temp guages to show. so if i do put new guages back there then i gotta put them behind that part and make a black plastic peice to go around them so you cant see all the **** back there. then i gotta cut a new hole for the fuel and temp guages on the passenger side. then i gotta make some mounts for it to screw on to. then i realized theres not alot of room going back for my boost guage. i figured i'd cut out the plastic peice in the back and make room, wrong!!! the firewall is there. does anyone have any tips that might help me with this cuz i was so pissed cuz i really wanna do this

i think he's talking about the tweeter cover. there's a write up somewhre on honda-tech hat should help you out alot.

i assumed he was talking about the vent because he said on the door by the switches, the tweeter cover is on the dash. but if he was talin about the tweeter cover, thats lookin like my only option for now. but thers only one guage, stil got 2 more after that

just for reference, here's what mine look like.
http://i9.photobucket.com/albums/a56/esedulerp5tenin/turbo/gauges-1.jpg
i think that placement is perfect cuz you dont hafta look too far over, and its very close to all the other gauges.

well... Im kinda partial to the completely stealth look done in the photos listed. The first setup is ProjectWidow's. Its very clean and he put these in place of his screen he had behind there. As long as your gauges are not super deep its not that hard, but it does require some modifications and fabrication. PM that member on absoluteprelude, preludepower or on honda-tech.... Hes local to me and a good friend and has tons of photos taken from the process.. It looks better in person than in photos, believe it or not... Hes also a boosted F22a1!

ahhhhh thanx, thats exactly what i was looking for, someone i could contact who's done it before. thanx man. and i do like the combined guages with the oddball on the tweeter cover and the 2 same style ones on the pod, good idea, better than all 3 on the pod

i was jsut thinking, any of you that got the a/f, oil, boost guages, what brand is it and how deep are they, like how far from the face to the furthest part back, im in the market for new guages that will fit, mines way oo deep

I'm going to put set of hidden guages in my 3rd gen.
It's going to be qiute extensive, I'll be makeing a custom popup mount for my guages that will sink flush with the dash. I'll be using servo's and a switch under neath the dash, when i flick the switch the guages will pop up and viola! haha I won't be installing that though until i get boosted. It still needs some thinking to make work.

lemme go measure mine right now..
glow-shift boost and oil press gauges are 2 inches deep, and an innovate XD-16 gauge is 3/4" deep.

i was actually thinking about that over the radio thing too, its funny cuz we think the same ideas, but i couldnt find hte plastic peice i was lookin for so i could do it, and i put my turbo timer in there instead cuz it fit perfect. but im liking the pop up idea, if you do decide to go with that, please keep me informed. and my faze boost guage is about 3 inches to the end of the fitting for the vaccumm line
