I picked this product up from napa as part of my new car tuneup, the can says its good for cleaning a lot of stuff. I used it as a fuel additive to clean my injectors, and ran it through a vacuum hose into my intake to clean all the carbon build up. I think it worked great, It created a lot of blue smoke, and you need someone to hold the can while you do the intake, and you gotta keep revving the engine to keep it from stalling, but after a can in the intake and a quick spin around the block to blow out any residual smoke it definitely made a difference.

have any else tried this on their lude?

i've tried it on my camry and Nissan Spec and it does wonders.

which vacuum hose did you use on the lude?

i use the brake booster vacuum to do it on my camry and that really cleaned it. so much smoke after starting it.

I've been recommended this from an extremely good mechanic. He swears by it. I've tried it on past cars, and it worked wonders. I haven't needed it on the lude yet.

i just dump it in the throttle body and rev it, does the trick with the tb, manifold, and everything else down the line.

I think I used my PCV hose as well. I can't remember! agh! I know I used one of the hoses on the driver side of the intake, thats why I'm thinkin' it was the PCV

Just wanted to add my input, this stuff works really great. i put half thru my PCV and half in my gas tank.

the product helps to break down carbon build up in the engine and when in the gas tank helps clean your injectors.

you can find plent of how to's when searching seafoam on youtube

Yea I got two cans, ran one though the intake, and one in the gas, it did a pretty good job at breaking crap up, and showed me my exhaust leak.. haha

i thought u put 1/3 in the gas 1/3 in the intake and 1/3 int he oil but u have to change the oil right after

sfields
11-24-2007, 11:13 PM
You could, dunno about the oil thing, but I just went for the whole can, followed the ratio's for the gas, but the intake was just nasty, everything on my engine was black when I got it, needed the cleaning.

i almost bought it one day..but i dont know how to use it..not comletely

sfields

for the intake you just kinda stick one end of the hose from the intake into the bottle and rev the engine... gotta keep it revved or it will stall, and I dunno what to do about that one, didnt wanna take my chance on it not wanting to start again.. for the gas you just add it to the tank, the bottle tells you how much to how much gas.

HondaNeedsBoost

yea....ill use some in the intake and the rest in the gas

the directions on seafoam say dont use on engines with over 120K or something like that, does it matter, should i do it anyway?

I though of it because one of our celica was like can't getting enough air in the air manifold and it just seem kind of hard to suck enough air or any air at all. And Do you just pour it down to the throttle body from the intake and just directly in the gas right? What about the engine oil? Can you do that too? If you can do all those, how long should i keep it in?

I can personally vouch for Seafoam. My car drove noticeably smoother after using it, plus it was fun as hell. Haha.

It's deffinately worth the $5-6 that it costs, my engine felt alot peppier after i ran a bottle of seafoam through it, i have yet to pour any inside the crankcase itself...

love it, 1/3 in the Brake booster or pcv hose, 1/3 in the oil, 1/3 in the gass

ive never done the oil since i didnt want it swishin around my oil, perhaps if i put it in then did an oil change to get the **** out.

i have actually been told about seafoam also. My friend is going to use it on his TL and i was just going to wait and see what happened. I will just give it a try. Does anyone know if it cleans out the build up around the EGR Valve?

yep. i used it for my egr valve and ports. the valve is easy to clean off. just turn it upside down, pour a lil seafoam in it. let it soak for about a min. good to go. for the ports, just pourit in both ports until untill full. put the vlave back on. start her up. rev all the smoke out. egr cel gone!

Good stuff. I did 1/3 in gas tank after fill-up, 1/3 through PCV, and 1/3 through oil right before I did my tune-up and I felt a major difference. Car felt smoother. It might be my imagination but as long as my engine doesn't mess up, then why not? I think I'm gonna try 1/2 in the tank, 1/2 in the crankcase, and a full bottle through the PCV and see how it works out. 1/3 just didn't cut it for me.

so i can also pour it into the oil and it wont hurt anything? I need to do it still, it has been sitting in my garage for a while now. Would you recommend using 2 cans?

omgosh!
08-10-2008, 08:20 PM
i've heard that you shouldnt leave seafoam in your crank, i forgot why though... so i never put it in my oil, except for when i use it to flush the oil out.

I would never use Seafoam ever in any car. It can cause damage, cleaning out all the carbon can reduce compression, blow crap into your catalytic converter and ruin that too...

If you HAD to use Seafoam, I would use a little bit in your vacuum line(s). Never in the oil, it'll clean out way too much crap and perhaps damage the journals or perhaps even clog them further...

Seafoam....the ultimate placebo with all of the white smoke pouring out huh :hmmmm2: :yeah:

Yeah, if you've taken piss poor care of your car it can lower compression. If you have mild deposits and buildup, it will make it run better not worse.

I'm gonna have to ask you how every car i've used it on that has high mileage (60k+) with regular oil changes runs smoother than before i used it. Seafoam is not for low mileage engines with newer engine oil. You really don't need to use it until you hit maybe 50-75k miles in a new car. Then after that not for 10-15k intervals.

Agreed, it works like a charm, it made a sticky lifter go away and i noticed i drop about 200 rpms at 80 mph. the car seems to drive alot cleaner and smother.

I wouldnt use more then recomended. I wont use again untill another 10k.
Its also fun to use!!!!!
Get a firend to inhale all the fumes! (just playing)
I dont comdem doing that theyd probly die. :stupido:

It is buy no mean a placebo it does what it says. If the crap built up on the engine is what keeping it running you got other problems. Yes it can mess up ur car more so if you use way to much or leav in in for a few days ect. when i firs got my 69 vw bug with the original engine has so much crap built up 10 mints of see foam clean it all up and made it run better with no loss of compression, so with that if it messed up anything then you did something wrong or had other hidden problems that would have cam up latter down the road.

my '92 sat for a year with a full tank of fuel per a busted timing belt and bent valves... I had JUST filled it up with Chevron Techron Premium when this happened.
The engine is a JDM H23A w/ 30+K on it, I put on an additional 35K before the "incident." (hey..how was I supposed to know the cheap ass mechanic didnt replace the belt as promissed!! -- effer!! )

When I got the car back I poured half the can of seafoam into my fuel tank, with the old gas, and ran it till about 25 miles past the empty/fuel light came on. I poured the other half of the can in and put another tank of Premium Chevron Techron in it.

If anything I have noticed a marked increase in performance. Quick accelerator response. No Smoke from the exhaust at all.

Would it be wise to do a compression test before Seafoaming and then another one afterward?

08-27-2008, 12:12 PM
I can't imagine why it would be a bad idea... I have used seafoam too. My car had low mileage and I didn't notice much difference if any. I will be using it on my Prelude however because I have heard numerous people talk about how good it is. And yes, numerous people can be wrong, but it's worth trying.

Just my 2 cents.

That would be wise but youd have to wait untill there is none left in the gas tank also. Try it i wanna see the results

Seafoam works great. I used it in my oil when I first bought my 5g to clean out the gunk in the motor. You wouldnt believe what came out. It works great!
