Hi to you all, my car stereo (head unit), runs hot , it is a kenwood koc-2025, at first I thought nothing of it,but now I'm worried cause it is so hot that the heat that it gives off is making the car uncomfortable to drive for long periods of time (heat radiating from back of unit). it functions fine, never shuts off or clips out, I did notice at one time that when i play certain cd's and turn the volume up it would chip out, but once I lowered th volume back to about midway it would be ok. I have a gauge connected to same power source line as the radio. could this be the cause. thanks for your help.

My alpine something head unit in my 4g runs hot sometimes. Sometimes so hot it burns to get a cd out but it functions fine. Until it catches on fire or stops working, I wouldn't worry with it. Mine's done this for the almost 2 years I've had it.

i would ignore it but the inside of the car is getting unbearably hot and my ac,is not working, so has become a problem.

fix it asap.
You dont want a small fire back there, especially in summer heat.

Take it out, look at the wiring to be sure...

I know, I'm wondering if I should replace it, with a different unit.

that could be a good choice, or maybe just the wiring harness is messed up.

Besides, units are cheap nowadays...

lately I have been pulling the radio and console out, because I have been installing non electrical items, but all th wires are connected to the radio via a quick release plug. but I will pull it out an look at it.

Nevermind then. The inside of my car is fine. The heat is just always the headunit and cds. I ahven't done anything other than plugging that up so I don't know what your problem is in yours.

Two questions one are you using the factory wire harness and if you are have you ever changed the factory fuse values. If you are using the factory power feed and you have not changed the fuse value then is the wiring getting hot or just the unit if only the unit dont worry it will get hot very hot sometimes. If you have changed from the factory wire then is it fused and if so how big is the fuse you should only have like a 20amp fuse for the radio if you go larger than that you could pull more current than the wire can support ie fire hope this helps

its not a whole big deal but i would one change the wire from the gauge to another source, and if it does not cool down then get ready for a new cd player..
