Ok so whats the deal, i have heard so much about not being able to and being able to swap a H22 into my 1989 Prelude. I have an '89 2.0S with a manual trans. I have heard its not possible because that car is carbed and the h22 is FI, but im swapping the whole thing so why wouldnt it work? Also what about motor mounts? Thanks a lot for any help!

You're gonna have to look around the 3rd gen forum a bit more
SquishyPanda did a S to Si swap. There's a lot of extra work involved, including changing gas tanks...(If i recall correctly)
So it's possible, but you're better off getting an already 'fuel-injected' 3g Prelude, pref. a 90-91 as they are already OBD I ready. Though you can get yourself a RYWIRE OBD -OBD I conversion harness.--contact member: team123luder
But hey, it's the journey that counts, right?
H22 mounts are available at AZ Race...check out the 3rd gen resource guide, it's a sticky.

yep its possible.... the fuel injection part really doesnt matter, because when you swap do the swap you are also switching out ECU's.... you will need AZ Motor Mounts (group purchase right now on preludepower.com), Rywire Wiring Harness and i think you will also need the following: custom oil pan, alternator relocation bracket and shift linkages..... all in all the swap will run you in the ballpark of 5-6 grand with the price of the motor and trans... swap can be cheaper depending on the deal you get on those..... me personally iam going with the F22 swap, throw forged internals in, and throw some boost at it and get more power then the H22, yes i wont have Vtec.... but that really dont matter honestly.... i just think 5 grand is a waste when your only pushing 210 (that the H22 puts out) and the F22 if you blow them then they are replaceable like no other, $200 gets you a used one all day long vrs a minimum of a used short block H22 will set you back $1000 if your lucky.... either way the motors we have in our cars are just a royal pain no matter how you look at it, either route you take will be well worth it

Fuel lines change, fuel pump, you'll want a better pump anyway. ECU and wiring....

Ok, thanks alot guys! Right now my lude is just sitting there, it has a severe idle problem so i just want to swap it. I think it would be amazing with more power. I will take some pics, it has an absolutley flawless exterior and i couldnt even sell it for $700 around here so i geusse i might as well swap it. Is there as much work in swapping in an F22 as an H22 uncle buck? Also which F22 motor can you use? Last question for now you said i will need: custom oil pan, alternator relocation bracket and shift linkages, is this all stuff i can buy or do i need to custom fab it?

honestly i dont think that iam gonna hafta use a custom pan or alternator relotcation bracket, because the motor is alot smaller in size (logicaly it is IMO) but time will tell.... its unfortuanate i dont have any research into this because no one has attepted the swap and shared info on it.... so iam kinda pissing in the wind on this deal... all time will tell....
the H22 swap will set you back 5-6grand from what everyone has been saying... so my thoughts are pick up a F22a1,trans ecu and wiring out of an accord (mine was out of a 91)... you can go have the complete motor machined, honed, and bored for a couple hundred (well i know i can cus i know the guys lol) get forged internals (which iam still undecided on what to get) a rebuild kit, get a T3/T4, the manifold all the piping....just to much to keep going on and on... just keep checkin back with me ill share as much info as i can when the time comes

Well i think i might go with the H22 Swap because there seems to be more info on it and more people have done it. If your swap goes well then the F22 is def. an option. I saw a honda swap book online i will probably pick that up. When i swap in an H22 i lose power steering/AC right? Man im getting excited for this. Oh yeah how about the wiring and stuff, i will have the ecu from the new motor but i dont have an obdo or w/e from that the SI because i have a carbed S...

hey do what you gotta do....i wasnt saying you sould do the F22, its just another option.... but at the same time (not trying to sound like a prick) i kinda wanna be the first one to do this swap to open up more ideas for other luders....

Yeah, i hear ya. Im pumped to see how ure comes out because i may do it. Which F22 motor are you using? Im planning on doing mine this winter. I cant find a F22 motor, tranny, ecu online....
Uncle Buck

F22a1.... and why buy one online?? no need to its a waste of money IMO.... i got mine off a guy that did a H22 swap into his Accord.... sold it to me for $200 and thats motor, trans, ecu and all the wiring (he gave me the wiring cus he wanted all new stuff, just the way the guys is i guess lol)

Yeah good call, im sure i could find one at a local junk yard or something. I cant wait to hear how you make out with ures!! Will i be ok doing this swap without the ECU that the '89 SI has?

^^NO, you cant use the ECU in your S Prelude. Need to get a conversion harness and switch over to OBD I to get your motor(whatever, f22 or h22) to work properly.
honestly i dont think that iam gonna hafta use a custom pan or alternator relotcation bracket, because the motor is alot smaller in size (logicaly it is IMO) but time will tell.... its unfortuanate i dont have any research into this because no one has attepted the swap and shared info on it.... so iam kinda pissing in the wind on this deal... all time will tell....

Actually, the motor is almost the same size as an h22. Same displacement. You can also use an h22 head on a f22 block. Hybrid.
-it wont set you back 5-6 grand.
You can get a motor/trans/ecu/shifter linkage/cables for around $2500.
The mounts themselves will run you $500.
So far $3000.ish.
I would say more or less $4000. + misc. items.
Your setup is a lot cheaper Uncle b/c you got great deals and a free intercooler  nice pick up bytheway
F22 swap is not common b.c those motors dont have stock hp as an h22 does.
You're building a monster drag car i'm thinking b/c you're planning to boost @25lbs you say?
Most people who have the dream to h22 their 3rd gen will be modest and make it street driveable+fun.
Stock f22 in a 3g. boring
Stock h22 in a 3g. Amazing.
Stock f22 +turbo. SIKNESS.
Oh and Honda407, if you want to f22 your 3rd gen, make sure it's an f22a6, the EX model CB7 Accord motor. A lil more HP than a f22a1.

5-6 grand is just what i was quoted.... oh well ill still be under budget and more power then the H22.... honestly i had no clue that i could drop the H22 head onto my block.... if thats the case i can get one of those rather cheap, just needs new springs.... maybe something to look into later on down the road....
F22 ecu would be the P12 if i remember right... or the P13.... iam sure someone will know off the top of there head.... i just dont feel like going to the garage to check :P ....
and as always iam glad to see i have a group of ppl that are standing behind me on this swap... i tell my friends and they look at me like iam some sort of retard... damn haters lol....

P12 is the ECU found on the Prelude S models.
I believe it doesn't have a speed governor compared to the Accord models.

oh ill go out to the garage later to double check to see what i got... but its one of the two:biggrin:

So would i be ok only having the one from the H22 and not one from the third gen SI?
Uncle Buck

you WILL need the ecu from the H22, it should come with the motor when you order it.... then you need a Rywire kit, then a jumper wire for your Vtec.... more details on this complete swap can be found at:

An H22 swap wont cost 5k.... I've spent a grand total of 3550 for mine. So all that non sense of it being "expensive" is total bull****.
The F22 setup will work. I doubt you'll need to relocate any of the accessories.... Just charge lines (AC) and oil lines (PS)
Uncle Buck

the 5-6k was quoted off other lude sites..... so dont shoot the messanger....
still what you have invested in your swap iam sure ill spend half that and still have more power in the long run then the H22.... just my thoughts....good day!
