What Does A Hood Spoiler & A Vortex Generator do?

I saw a couple of these on ebay and I've always wondered...what in the world do they do? Is it just for looks? or do they serve a purpose?

the vortex generator is basically for looks. does nothing

The vortex generator is exactly that, it generates a vortex.

Apparantly it's a useful thing if you're travelling at over250km/h regularly.

As in this OEM one? Just smoothes the airflow over the windscreen wipers

I can't decide whether I want one or not. But then again, I also can't decide whether or not I should put on the mugen tail that I've got...
