Hey guys,
I am newbie to this forum, but have been a member of IS300.net for years and know how to properly search etc, but anyway who cares right
I have searched for some answer but could not find it... I bought an 89 prelude si 4WS about 2 months ago. At first it drove great and ran normal, than slowly it became "sluggish," and then to the point it would barely drive. I had to take backroads to the shop cuz it wouldnt go past 20mph. I took it in, he replaced my distributor cap, plugs and cleaned my injectors. He said that my 3rd and 4th cylinders were not firing and those two injectors were dirty and possibly bad. Well I got it out and it ran great, but then it did the same thing about a week later so I ordered 4 new injectors, replaced myself and it ran great, now about 400 miles later its doing it again. Pulled the plugs, the 3rd & 4th are shot... I am only running on the 1st & 2nd cylinders again. I am guessing too much gas into the 3rd and 4th cyl cuz the plugs are black and look like they have been burning alot of gas... Whats causing this??? I need your help... any suggestions would be appreciated!!!
Thanks,

You are not getting any CEL's?
Run a compression test see what's going on with cylinders 1 & 2.
Also replace your fuel filter and use a high octane gas to clean out the injectors, again.

Black plugs means you are running extemely Rich, how are the other two?
Check to see if you have a vacuum line loose and when you gas it, do you see black smoke puff out the rear?

oh, and welcome to the board !

no CEL's at all... I had one for a few minutes when I first got the car, but nothing since I have had it in the shop. The other two plugs are still dark, but nothing like the ones in the 3rd and 4th cyl... where do i check the vacuum line, and no black smoke when I gas it, but it does stink while its running...
Thanks man, I really appreciate it

Stink of what? you smell gas?

if that's the case, look again at your injectors. They could be not fasten correctly. . .

Sorry its been a crazy weekend, but I finally pulled the car apart and found out the problem... the filters at the top of the injectors were so clogged that no fuel was getting through, so i cleaned them out really good and the car runs like its brand new again... this has happened before and I know it will happen again, so now I need to figure out whats causing the fuel injector filters to clog... is it a bad fuel filter? The 1st fuel injector filter was fine, the 2nd was slightly clogged, the 3rd was pretty bad, and the 4th was horrible!!! I just need to find the underlying problem so they dont get clogged again... any ideas?
Thanks again for everything

i talked to the guys at the shop and they think the reason my injectors keep clogging is because i have a bunch of **** in my fuel tank and its too much for the fuel filter to handle... whats the easiest fix? Get a new gas tank or is there an easier way to get the crap out...

You can drain the gas tank via the drain plug...yes we have one
