:biggrin: Im just wondering how many ppl in this fourm about if you really know about H series. questions of the day is, In h-series there is two timing belts. and can you take one off???? and also anyone know about hall-monic balancer?? if u do please explain to me. oh and wat color main bearings do you have use? in additon, is H-series block almost same as the 4g63s?? please let me know thank you very much.:biggrin: :biggrin:

One is a timing belt, the other (smaller one that only covers part of the bottom end) is the balance shaft belt. You can either choose not to install it, or buy a removal kit (saves weight). You pick up a few HP from not having them, but you will most likely notice a little more vibration. The harmonic balancer is widely debated. Some people believe the stock crank pulley is a harmonic balancer because of the rubber piece inside, others don't. Couldn't tell you about main bearings or 4g63's

what do you mean by the blocks of the h series and evo being the same? they are two totally different blocks made up of different materials.

as a newb I'll take a shot in the dark and it will be okay if I'm wrong.
The 4g63s and the h22 both have 2 balance shafts, thats the big hump in the long block. as compared to the b series motors which only have 1.

if you know your h22, tell me why you shouldnt upgrade to even type s cams without upgrading the valvetrain?

ok... so they both have 2 balance shafts.... ok.... that doesn't make them the same. it's still two totally different blocks.
different sleeves, different pistons, different piston walls, different displacement etc...etc...

yes, "almost". yes, difference in between those two, diff cylinder wall, pistons and the displacement. but look at specific as where "harmonic balancer" is located, the small belt, weight of the block(diff materials), and last just like mr. invdaertrax said, it could gain hp but when u remove them it actually free the motor about exactly the same than other american cars... it will be opp. that's wat i meant about almost a same block. or i should've been more specific about the question.. thats my bad. and 98vtec im not going to answer ur question. and my question to you 98vtec, why you shouldnt upgrade to even type r cams without upgrading the valvetrain on a b16 and b18s?
ps- all motor could be the same ;).

I think he has heard that the exhaust patterns for the 4g63 and the h23 are about the same, they aren't perfect but you can wallow out the holes an make a 4g63 mani work on a h23. ( i have an evo mani on my accord) But the h23 and the h22 exhaust patterns are not the same.
The color codes on your bearings are strickly for your car only and each car is more than likely different. ( lets just say i wouldnt chance them to be the same) you just take yours out and it says on the bearing what color and number they are. the reason for the color and number codes on the bearings and crank are from the factory the different tolerences that had to be used to make it all fit correctly.
as for the 2 belts yeah what they said. I have heard of some people deleting the balancer for less rotating mass. i personally wouldnt do that, it was made that way for a reason and i think would wear the engine out faster.

The balance shaft reduces engine vibration, I presonally wouldn't want to bypass that.

I wouldn't take them out either. I'm strong believer in engine stability and that's why they put the two shafts there for.

removing the balancer shafts drops 22lbs and reduces frictional losses.
they are just a comfort thing. doesnt matter how much the engine vibrates after removal, its not going to effect the balance of the engine.

and i mean, if you already have the engine out and the main cap already off, then why not buy the CHEAP kaizenspeed kit for 125 shipped to delete them and free up a good amount of power by reducing these frictional losses.
some b series didnt even come with balancer shafts and they run for 200,000+ miles.

Why would anyone waste their time memorizing the colors of the main bearings?

some people do it all the time so it just comes natural to knowing the colors i guess. I know there are plenty of people that have just torqued so many of the same things that they can just ramble off all the torque specs of the engine, lol.

Never seen a B series with balance shafts.

The balance shaft may be a lot more than just comfort. The extra engine vibrations will probably cause you to run through motor mounts alot faster.
I know a tuning shop that removed it from their DSM to see what the gain was but it was really loud and for a street car it was trerrible.
If your going full race, go for it, as you'll probably break for some other reason long before the balance shaft causes any issues.

h22 block is aluminum, 4g63 is iron, h22 rotate counterclock-wise if you look at it directly from the side, 4g63 rotate clock-wise.
