I hope I'm not repeating a thread but I couldn't find anything on this. My 94 VTEC goes through 1L of 10w30 every 1000km. It's not smoking at all and I don't have any big external leaks. I was told it wouldn't be the valve seals cause it would smoke.

i have the same issue in my 01 h22. i'm pretty sure most of it is coming out the pcv. anyway i put a quart in every other fill up.
If there is no smoke.. i would attack the PCV valve.

Thanks guys but I'm not sure what to look for and if I should replace the PCV

or... are you running it hard? how often are you hitting vtec?

Not very often. Once or twice a day. I heard that VTEC engines take oil but not that much

what exactly do you mean by that. i know that the vtec system runs on pressurized oil but where does it go? does it leak out, if it did wouldn't it go right back into the head. or does it somehow get burnt or vaporized.

The VTEC system uses oil but the oil stays in the engine, what I meant is that I heard these engines burn oil because of the high compression and and high rpm

oh.... gotcha, yeah, like it,
also because it's VTEC you're more likely to bring it to 7500 rpm than a normal engine because... uh... IT'S FUN AS HELL!

all engines burn oil. the h series especially. h22a1/h22a dont burn much, the h22a4 and h22a7 burn quite a bit. you said that you hit VTEC about twice a day then it sounds like a genuine oil burn. dont worry about it too much. just watch it. if it gets worse than have a mechanic check it out

once or twice a day would do it. it's just a normal burn for you. and given the age of your motor (i'm assuming you haven't done a swap), it's very normal because the rings on the h22a1 aren't exactly the best.

Definitly for from the best.. lol
But then again.. he still said no smoke.
To be sure anyway .. just change the psv valve.. its stupid cheap part. Just a few dollars. Are.. what ever kinda money you have over there. If it doesnt help. O well. Atleast thats off your mind.

pc valve. its like 1.75 at your local auto store. in one of your post it seems you don't know where its located. it sits on to of your valve cover.

He means on TOP.. of your valve cover.

I may be shooting blanks but isn't the reason for us burning so much oil the fault of ****ty piston rings? I thought I read somewhere that when you get your engine rebuilt to make sure you change them "to stop burning oil".
I would say 8 times out of Ten.. If you build/rebuild a Turbo Motor. you will burn oil. Reason being. Turbo cars use alot of boost at a low compression. So you get this thing called Blow by. Blow By is when your pistons let oil past your rings. Usually on a N/A motor you dont want that. But turbo cars .. you do. some Cars .. like the Mitsu Evo. Have oil sprayers built in the block to spray oil on the pistons. They do this because on high boost motors. The heat in the camber is so great some times that the piston expands and they need the extra space between the pistons and wall to allow it to so it want crack something. They usually use the oil to keep things cool.
But yea... On the prelude. .the pistons rings are very weak and will start cracking. If you rebuild your motor. i would never use the factory rings again.
Even on the turbo motors you build. Oil may sneek past the rings But only very min. And still the rings are in perfect shape.

Thanks a lot for the help. I know where the PCV valve is, I just never thought that it could suck up oil back into your intake, and you would think that there should be smoke.

are u using synthetic??? its good oil but can escape from the car much easier you could also try using a different W in the car like a 20-50 and see if that doesnt stop the problem or at least slow it down.

I use regular mineral oil, but I don't know if I want to try the thicker stuff. I think it's better to keep adding then to use that.
