so i want to repair my trunk since i took of my wing and i was wondering if i could fill the holes from the mounting brackets with bondo na dsand it down what not or if the holes would have to be re welded shut, obvioulsy that would be a better choice but for lack of funds i was wondering if i could use bondo? the holes are i want to say 1/8, and there are eight of them. i have never used bondo so i dont know what i can and cant fill in with it. thanks for the help in advance.

i wouldn't recommend using bondo for that bondo is used mostly to fix dents where it has something to "sit" in, so to speak. if you try to use it on the holes there is a good chance it will want to droop or sag in the middle. i would definately get it welded.

Yeah welding is your best choice. Like 1badbb6 said, Bondo needs a place to sit for it to be fully effective.

bondo will also crack over time....

If it's done right and not put under extreme conditions, it shouldn't. The old RX7 I learned stick on, had a big ass dent where a truck ran into it. The last owner tried to fix it himself but din't know what he was doing. Bondo was about 2 inches thick. I had to get a chizzle to get the top off but about 1/8" of an inch deep, it was still wet all the way down after 15 years.

if you go to your local fiberglass shop or boat shop, get 1.5oz mat. scuff the bottom of the trunk lid w/ like 80g sand paper arround the hole(like 2in). use vinylester resin bond 2 layers to the steel. use a paint brush to tap out the bubbles. then when that cures you will have a backing for your bondo. but since you are getting materials from a fiberglass shop, get some real vinylester putty. it's such a small job, when you explain it to them they'll probably give you the materials out of scrap. or if they're anything like the shop i used to work at they'll just do it for you. it's a 7 min job(including kick time) for anyone that knows how to do it w/ the right materials.

if the place you go to doesn't make it look like it will be this easy, they are pulling the wool over your eyes go somewhere else.

anyplace that does R+D or prototyping or repair should have scrap of these materials and will give you some.

i was thinking about doing something along the lines that preludeshalyn was describing. i didnt know if it would work or not, has anyone ever had holes filled in by welding before i was just wanting to ballpark a figure.

Well what I did was just find someone who didn't want a spoiler, and swapped deck lids so now I have a spoiler, and LED brake light. Only problem then is the locks.
