Hey,
I'm currently waiting on my manifold to be made, yet I have everything else installed and ready to go. I'm asking for some help with tapping the oil pan since the pan's walls are so thin. If anybody could provide pics of how they did it, that'd be great. The fitting I currently have for the pan is 1/2" NPT. Thanks in advance!!

its camo yo.
it blends in
after i sanded all the rust off, i sprayed it with brown rustoleum paint, then i thought the next can was a clearcoat for the rustoleum, but it turned out to be white rustoleum
but my car is so low that theres no way in hell anyone is gonna see it

How do you plan to get the fitting to stay in? I'm curious about that...

i bought a nut with the same thread as my fitting to go on the inside of the pan.
ontop of that, i'll prolly JBweld the outside (dont knock it, PLENTY of people have had it work successfully) or weld it regularly (if there's a way to weld brass to.... steel??)

hrm... sounds feasible to me... i thought the oil pan was cast aluminum? Now to wait on the manifold..... omg i can't wait the suspense is killing me...

take it to a someone who does welding work thats what i did and if i was able to find someone in my area who does that then u should be able to too. it is safer then jb weld. make sure u tap it high enough that it doesnt prevent the oil return that would be bad twoel is almost too low i would say. i think i had mine tapped about an 1/8 higher.

you think mine is too low??
since that hole is only like 1/2" and i need around a 3/4" hole, you think i'll be good if i drill the 3/4 off-center so that the bottom of both holes are the same? (which would essentially mean the center of the hole will be higher than the smaller hole)

no i would not do that. that would lead to all sorts of problems. try it first pore like 4 quarts of water in it and see where the waterline is then if it is off have the hole welded. i would also not go with jb weld ya lots of people use it and it has worked but look around see if there is anyone in ur area who welds they will be able to weld it in. it cost me like 20 bucks no reason to cheap out if u have an oil leak that would really suck

um... i wouldn't use water... maybe some old oil if you have any saved in the jugs...

why would u put oil in a clean oil pan if on an off chance it might need to be redrilled then u have to clean the pan out for a second time, i realize water is not as thick as oil but it will at least give an indication of the level

pardon me if this sounds noob... but is the interior of the oil pan rust-proof?

huh.... didnt think about that but i imagine it would be treated i used water to help clean my oil pan out when i had it tapped

hmm... ok sounds fair... i just remembered mine was cleaned out the same way by my dad... make sure you DONT use bleach... that'll be sure to dematerialize the pan.

as long as the water doesn't sit in the pan for months/years on end, i see no harm with that method.
it'll be filled with water for what, 5 minutes? then just clean it all up with a towel

so i did the water test: when the pan is as level as i can get it, 4.5 quarts is EXACCTLYYY at the bottom of the hole, but not pouring out.
input??

the ur good to go cause ur going to have less oil in there then the 4 to 4.5 quarts that it can hold since most of the oil will be in the engine and the turbo. close though, make sure though not to put in more then 4 quarts though, that should give u enough room for acceleration and cornering since the oil will move around.
