Whats a nice poor mans setup. Right now I have Maxspeed lowering springs and the lude is slammed in the front but it could be a little lower in the back. But thats the least. What I need to know is what adjustable shocks to get?

KYB's, Koni's? What? Also tell me how the shocks ride if you have them on your car.

Thanks,
Ace

suspension is one thing that you DONT wanna skimp out on!!!
but it sounds like your not doing that on shocks, thank god.

I have KYB AGX's with my neuspeed sport springs, and i LOVE this combo. this is my first suspension setup, so i don't really have anything to compare it to, but its still a very good combo.

people with more experience w/ suspension will tell you "KYB AGX's are fine for daily driving and a little racing now and then. but if your gonna be doing alot more racing than daily driving, go with koni yellows. they will NOT let you down!!"

good luck

i've heard good things about the kyb agx and neuspeed combo, or the kyb agx and h&r sport combo. i used to run tokico illumina and eibach pro. the ride was stiff even on the softest setting.

twokexlv6coupe the springs I have are great. I have stock sh shocks and I want to upgrade them. I don't cheap out on suspension. I know thats a big no-no! Thanks man!

I want to autoX but like once a year or something like that. I have plenty of windy road here in Atl so they KYBs should be fine then huh?

Hotrod the Tokico's are adjustable? Wow I didn't know that. Thanks

Jesse as far as ebay goes. I friend of mine gave those ebay coilovers a try and when I slammed it for him a couple of months later he came to me and was like, "yo Ace! my coilover springs are bent!? I was like WTF???? Surely enough they were bent. Ebay big no-no with suspension.

well by the time you go though 10 sets of ebay shocks to get decent ones, you coulda spent that money in the beginning to get good ones.

my thoughts exactly. just do it right the first time around. saves you money and headaches.

Jesse I knew what you meant. Also lets forget about ebay shocks. I'm looking for a good shocks wih decent set of coilover or springs. I have good springs right now so I just wanted to know about the shocks and what you guys recommended.

I'm new to this ****... but i know my car needs dropped. Do i need to just by lowering springs? or coilovers? or the whole new suspension.

that would be entirely up to you. if you're autocrossing or tracking on the weekends, and using it as your daily driver, you're going to want to adjust that thing so go coilovers. if you just want it for looks, springs and matched shocks (notice the emphasis) are all you'll need.

i had kyb agx's on my Z... they were great. i have mugen showa's on my prelude right now but i'm going to switch them out for tein flex's.

Doesn't that cost more money to buy the springs and the shocks? rather than just coilovers? Know any good place with decent pricing on this stuff?

not really....

my agx's were 400 new... tein springs you can pick up for around 200 new.... thats not bad compared to the 1450 for my mugen or 1300 for tein flex coilovers

right. and just to throw a few more numbers at you:

my first setup: eibach pros (~ $250) and tokico illuminas (~ $500) = $750 total
these were not matched. so the ride was horrible.

my second setup: h&r sports (~ $200) and kyb agx (~ $420) = $620 total
i'm not sure if the spring rates on these were matched, but they were a lot better than my first, so at the very least closer spring rates.

my current setup: tein flex coilovers, $1230. i still have the receipt... that's why i have the exact number. the ride on these is awesome. one of the reasons being the springs and shocks on a coilover system is matched from the factory.

I talked to a friend tonight about this, and he said that you don't even need to go with those kind of setups if you don't have the money. He said just buy some lowering springs and it will do the job? is that true?

negative....

lowering springs don't effect the dampening of the shocks. just getting the springs is a half-assed solution imho... but if it's a matter of funding, i can completely understand that

lowering springs > 1.5" + stock shocks = blown shocks
lowering springs < 1.5" + stock shocks = really nasty ride

but like bard says, if funds are a problem, i can understand. no matter what you do, just don't cut the springs.

yea, you can use good quality springs with stock shocks and maintain that set up for a while.. but it's recommended to upgrade everything
