I never auto-X before, that's why I ask ?'s about it and want to get into it, so where's the most power needed across the band for it? Midrange or high range? I want to build an auto-X purpose car by ditching my tired smoking usdm h22 w/ 268k mi and starting with a fresh Type S swap. I figure FI is out of the question for autoX. Any input would be great

N/A or Supercharger.

N/A is the most responsive. You won't be getting up so fast for a turbo to really help THAT much. If you go Type S, your compression is already pretty high.

in auto x with an fwd u obviously want good suspension and u want low to mid range power. u will be doing a lot of braking and what not. u will need the acceleration

Like I said before, it's best to do your first couple autocrosses stock to see how you react to the car and save your money for entrance/membership fees. But it is a great way to open up the car, not to FULL potential, but well enough for a weekend thing.

^^Yes i agree.

Hit the autoX a few times, understand and pinpoint your weakness as a driver.
The car can do so much, but ultimately it is the driver that wins or loses a race.

Having a car that has 50000000000trillion horsepower doesn't mean jack. Having forced induction, meaning a turbo'ed car isn't too ideal...who has time to wait for spooling?! you lose seconds spooling...

Having a great, balanced car with low end power, good 1st and 2nd gearing is the key.
Look at the Miatas. RWD, good low end power from a 1.8L. They pwn Autocross events. They have max 150hp. In auto cross events, you will hardly utilize 3rd gear.

you don't really need much power to be fast in autox. just drive it stock and keep the rpm high in vtec and you'll be fine. if it was me i'd just get the jackson racing SC and call it a day for power.

SC/NA is best for all around instant power on throttle but turbo sounds cool witht the BOV
