So in the search for an affordable header that I could reply on, I went into hours, days, and weeks, or research. I knew GReddy made a good header for my H23 but it just cost too much. I had heard enough bad about the DC header that I marked it off the list to begin with. I had heard about the Megan header a few times and started looking into it and for the mot part, everyone who got it, seemed pretty pleased with it, especially for the price. I found a new one for about $155 new, shipped so I decided to try it out. I already had an intake on my car so I put the header on the same time I got my exhaust and immediately, I could tell a power difference. It wasn't a night and day difference but definately noticeable. There's a road about 3/5of a mile long and Somewhere in there, there's one of those "stop sign ahead" signs. From The stop before that sign to it, I used to be going 90 when I got to it. Now it's 101. I'm gonig to the 1/4 strip next week and I'l post up how much I've improved over stock.
The construction of this header was very impressive. The welds were done very nicely and the heder itself is pretty lightweight. I'd reccomend this to anybody, especially someone on a student's budget.

Now for some pics. PLEASE excuse the dirtyness and the ugly valve cover. That's the next thing to take car of on my to-do list.

Last spring, bone stock, 18" rims, I ran 16.18 @ 85.74 mph in the 1/4 mile.
Last saturday I ran, 15.352 @ 91.76 mph on stock rims.

With a little tuning and maybe some weight reduction, I think 15 flat is obtainable. So there ya go folks.

I also have been thinking about this Header. I been thinking about throwing out the DC junk for this. I can't wait to see your time. Did you track the car before? This way we know about how much you shed off your time.

Keep us posted.

Well it was my first time ever at the track, I also had some bigass 18"s that I chunked as soon as I got home at 1:00 AM that night, and a full tank of gas, lol. It was also about 98 degrees so the track was slippery.

So all things considered:
60': 2.495
1000: 13.56
1/4: 16.18 @ 85.74 mph

Now I'm back on my stock wheels, Yokohama Avid V4s, intake, Megan header/downpipe, test pipe, 2.25 exhaust piping, Flowmaster muffler.

I didn't measure. I know the end of the downpipe is 2.25" cause that's how big my exhaust is.

uhh so the cheap megan is a good bang for the buck? would this review be also helpful for the header in h22?

Si Speed
02-11-2007, 06:11 PM
Definately. I'm sure it would be good for an H22. I've nver heard anything bad about it on those.

make sure you really tighten down the bolts connecting the collectors to the downpipe, cuz i didn't, and my car has sounded like a propeller airplane for about a year now cuz the front one came loose and burnt a hole in the gasket

I might outta get down there and make sure then. Mine sounds so raspy right now, largely due to the tip rattling.

Where did you buy the Megan header from? I have a generic ceramic header from eBay on my Prelude. But I don't like the ceramic and how it's starting to rust in some spots here and there. I've been considering the Megan header. My friend had a Megan header on his '95 Accord EX and it looked real nice under the hood and it never rusted since it's SS.

Do you have any under the hood pictures of this header installed on your H23?

Si Speed
02-11-2007, 09:12 PM
For some reason I knew you were gonna ask this, lol. At the moment, no. I was gonna wait till I got some red crinkle paint and paint my valve cover before I took any cause it's really dirty and ugly under there right now. If you really want a shot, I can get one tomorrow.

Good pick up.

...would like to see pictures of it installed and the actual collector size.
Perhaps you can clean up the welds with a dremmel tool and make it bigger.

nice.

Nah Imma just leave it like it is. I'll prolly get a custom and bigger one after I get my internals built but it's just right for what I have now.

Damn and you have an H23? What were your 60' times?
What else have you done to the car since last spring besides header and intake?

Yup, H23A1.
My 60" were 2.3-2.4.
I have an exhaust but I think a lot of it has to do with just improving as a driver since then. Lat time I went out there all tense, ready to kick some @$$ and I wasn't smooth or consistant. This time I just relaxed, and let the car come to me instead of trying to force it to do stuff it can't.

so i just flew down to florida to pick up my 5th gen and drove it up to NY. i love it. i'm finally a 5th gen owner. had too much fun driving up. i will be purchasing the megan header as well. i have heard great things, no complaints. thanks for the great info. this thread and this site has helped so much so far.

i will more than likely get a megan header when the time is right...thanks for the info :thumb:

Si Speed
05-07-2008, 08:24 AM
Yup yup.
I'm thinking about getting one and doing a 2.5" collector mod on it for my 5th. Main reason for it is that it is slightly lighter than stock and the downpipe is mandrel bent. I can just weld some pieces on and keep my header cover on it. If I wasn't doing all that, then I'd just keep the stock header on the H22.

Was the header rough to install? I mean, could an inexperienced 19 year old kid bolt it on in a day out in his driveway? =D

Hell yeah, I was barely 18 when I installed my Megan header. You'll be just fine. =) Try to get your hands on an o2 sensor wrench, it'll come useful when removing/installing the o2 sensor.

Good leverage, always avoid stripping nuts/bolts, and a lot of PB blaster will help you get through any of those kind of struggles.

twokexlv6coupe
06-15-2008, 11:51 PM
once you look at them, you'll know what i'm saying.

they don't really look like typical "nuts" that you would see on a bolt after awhile. they kinda look like..... a blob of rust!
Showaski basically nailed it on the head for gettin these nuts off (STILL waiting for it..................)

Prelude_Ryd3r

Yea bolts aren't what I'm worried about....my 98' Integra (R.I.P) had the oil filter torqued on so tight, that I couldn't do my own god damn oil change the first time....cuz the garage that inspected the car b4 i bought it really ripped it in there. If anyone knows about Integras, the filter is a bitch to get a hand on anyway (car never made it to its second oil change, totaled after 2 months of ownership)

I'm getting this header too once i get done with my suspension. The only thing I'm worried about it getting those bolts loose too! Some thick leather gloves or maybe those UFC padded once might protect your fingas haha

All you need to know, is the header will fit, and where there is a will, there is a way. You WILL get the nuts off becuz there is no WAY you are gonna leave that header sittin in your garage collectin dust.

or you could be super baller, and install a new header, cat, and exhaust at the same time. save you alotta headaches, bruised knuckles and ego's, but drain your wallet.

I might leave it in the garage until I can feel my fingers again.

I already have a cat back, but maybe if I have too much trouble at the front of the cat I'll try the back. This summer is the summer of the lude so why not get a new cat too ha

I suppose that would help now wouldn't it? Good luck with the install, mine should be here in roughly a week, so I will see what I can do. Gonna take a look at those nuts (ya know...the ones on the downpipe...) tomorrow when its light out.

You might as well start daily doses of WD40 or some loosening stuff on those bolts until it gets there ha, heck I might as well start and I probably wont order if for another month or two.

06-16-2008, 12:57 AM
Not a bad idea. Start breakin um free early lol.

I will get in there tomorrow morning and see how bad they are. Need to drive the car to work so I won't try to yank um off just yet.

Soooo the header has arrived! Time for me to go head on with those blobs of rust that used to be nuts + bolts...Liquid Wrench to the RESCUE!!!! Need to go buy some ><

Probably gonna wait on the install until my intake gets here too, so once that shows up I will install and post up some pix. Wish me luck!

Ha, I installed mine a yesterday. Took about 90 minutes - 2 hours.
Feels way better then stock. I found out my stock one had a major leak on the downpipe.

Yes, with modification to the downpipe, it'll need to be extended. Excellent excuse to do a 2.5" collector mod.

So mine came, gaskets and product registration came with it, and it was in a Megan stainless-steel header box. I'm looking at these welds and they seem pretty ****ty. I'd contact Megan to ask them about it, I mean for all I know someone took a ebay header and welded a Megan badge to it, but the last time I tried to contact them they never wrote back. Seriously bad looking welds... I've tried to take pictures of the welds with digital camera on macro setting but the auto focus even with the flash is focusing on the wrong depth...
