i am doing a swap on my friends prelude for my shop class. i have all the shift cables rans, the pedals, guage cluster. pretty much everything, Including the wiring for the trans control box, for the trans. i was just wondering which motor and trans mounts will work between the two types of transmissions. also has anyone done this swap and have any more hints to help me along?
Thanks in advance.

i had the swap done in my 5th gen they just moved the tranny mounts in mine so you might have to do the same for the one you are workin on

Motor = b20a5
Usuable manual transmissions:
1988=d2j5
1989=d2j3
Motor=b20a3 Carb
Trans=d2j4
*note 90-91 d2a4 will not work with the b20a5. (edit: if i recall correctly)
We 90-91 Luders are just nice like that.

i dont know if this helps but on the 90 and 91 the front motor mounts are different between the AT and MT cars, my front motor mount is actually marked MT, so i would go check out a 88 or 89 manual prelude and look at them both side by side to see if you can tell any major differences
oh and are the D2J5 and D2J3 hydro trannys?>

I got the motor and trans back into the car, the only thing i had to change was to move the stock AT trans mount forward about an 1" and now i have final assembly and troubleshooting left. and so far the only money spent was to replace the parts that were damaged during engine removal when the owner and one of his friends pulled the motors from the two cars.
