So i have an h23 in my lude. I spoke to my shop and they ran me all the numbers for h22 engine swap.
it came out to be 1750 w/o the tranny plus an extra 600 for labor
and 2500 with motor and tranny with an extra 600 for labor

so motor and tranny would be 3100

so anyway, im thinking.. am I better off just turbo'ing my h23 (has 125k); engine is very strong and well maintained or should i just forget about turbo'ing and just put some S pistons in there?

someone told me on this board an h23 with s pistons would blow any stock h22. but downside is your limited due to high compression incase i want to turbo later on...well with all these points factored in...

which would you guys pick and tell me why you personally chose that option?
h23 turbo
h23 s
h22

and also if you guys are familiar with pricing, which option would be cheaper?

just remember.... Price, Reliability, and Fast. you can only have two of them

edit. and i also have 114K miles

Man im gonna tell you these choice few words. What do you want? Reliability or Custom Power? you decide.

^^^^^Have to agree with DaKilla

N/A all the way!!!! Turbo is nice at first until you see how much a pain in the ass the maintence will be. Just ask some boosted luders on the forum. If you got the dough, go boost, but boost it right. Rebuild the motor for boost. Very pricey. Go N/A and be happy.

I say N/A but I'm bias. Like rican said, boost is a lot to maintain.

ok ive been researching all of this for the last 3 months....heres what ive found:

boosted h23- its expensive and in order for it to be reliable it must be done RIGHT. i have searched for countless hours looking for a cheap but good setup. i havnt been able to get anything lower than $7.5k. i dont know how much that is to u but to me thats ridiculous.....thats more than the value of my car. and as everyone is saying it is a lot of unneeded maintenance.

n/a h23- ive searched and searched and havnt found any good n/a build for the h23. its amazing how much u have to spend just to make enough power for it to be worth it. not worth it IMHO

boosted h22- about the same cost as the boosted h23 but not as powerful, due mainly to the fact that the h22 is not nearly as responsive to bolt ons as the h23 is. u could spend the same amount of money on boosted h22 versus the h23 and wont make nearly as much power.

n/a h22- talk to ogsmakdade. these are his dyno results from right after the build completion. http://www.preludecentral.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=80 keep in mind that it was untuned. granted he spent out the ass to get it this powerful but still, turbo is the easy way out. an n/a h22 is saying something, what u had to do to get it so monstrous is more respectable than slapping a turbo on. everyone turbos, u dont find many n/a h22s. the jdm h22 is making 200hp to the flywheel. it will be quite easy and not very costly to make at least 200+whp with minor mods(i/e/h, plugs, wires, flywheel, clutch, and a good tune). it wont cost near as much as turbo. this is the best approach IMHO. this is what ive decided to do.

i hope that u take this into consideration. this coming from the one of the most loyal h23 owners out there. im sure u dont know me but the few that do know how much i love my motor. ive realized that turboing is out of the question for me. my lude is a dd and if i boost and have any kind of pressure over 16psi than it will be a hell of a time keeping it on the road with street tires.

good luck with which ever build u choose

why is the h22 not as responsive to bolts ons?

i dont know but they dont make very good power with turbo compared the h23

do you know any BOV's that give that flutter sound effect instead of the straight swoosh noise? or does that sound just come naturally when you put an insane amount of boost to prepped engine?

depends....what setup? pieced or kit?

im telling u though n/a ftmfw.....boost is too much maintenance and not gonna be worth it in the long run....ur pretty much risking blowing ur motor
