I was thinking about this for a long time. Is there a really big difference in handling and all that stuff when you drive a 4ws 4th generation or a regular one like mine. And is it expensive to do the conversion? Practically it should help when it comes to traction too, right?

You mean "4ws". And yes there is. You can literally do donuts. Drive in a complete circle.

My bad i meant 4 wheel steering... That's crazy man. Is it possible to convert my car to 4ws?

You can try but its not that simple at all!! you need speed sensors the 4ws ecu. I was going to attemp this but i did some research and i saw that it would be easier to purchase a 4ws than trying to make your own lude into a 4ws!!

The 4th gen 4ws is electronic, controlled by a 4ws computer and speed sensor(s).
You also need the two steering racks and dist shaft with all sensors and headaches that come along LMFAO...
...94lude is right.
If you want 4ws in a 4th gen, find the chassis that comes with it.

I second that. If you have a 3rd gen, it's mechanical and shouldn't be as hard to convert if you just wan 4WS but they were pretty common in that chassis so even then, you could just buy one.

plus, from my understanding you'd need to convert to ABS as well in order to have functional 4WS

crap!!! nevermind then... lol Ya i was just wondering but i guess is not worth it. I was thinking also about changing the whole steering system and all that crap and make it rear drive. I even talked to someone about it but its gonna be alot...

What are you trying to say? I'm just trying to help the brother out. I haven't said RX7, rotary, 20B, or anything to do with a rotary powered car in this thread. Lol....now I have.

I went looking for one in the Virginia area, but the only 4WS's I "could" find were beat to crap. Does anybody have any information about a conversion si to 4ws si on a 3rd gen? I've got an 89si under 70k and I would really like to attempt it before rust starts popping up around the wheel wells. Also does anybody know where I can get my hands on power door locks too. Those are the only options missing on mine.

To convert to 4ws, you would need 4ws racks(front and rear) and the distribution shaft.
With that saying, there are many people who go to junkyards and pull the system...
check out www.prelude3g.com for a complete writeup.
*note you dont have to drop the gas tank. You can simply unbolt the shields off the center...
is that a serious question?
Not really... just alittle 5th gen humor.

4ws + autoX = good times. By the way doesn't 4ws sensors be acting up all the time and have to be replaced all the time, I use to hear complaints about them.

Well, I'm in the process of finalizing the deal on the donor 4ws Prelude. It even has my Power door locks I've been looking for. If all goes according to plan tomorrow; I'll have 2 3rd gen preludes in my driveway. ...wow

The 4th gen 4WS can get annoying. If you stall, stop to get gas, or just shut the engine off for less than five minutes it doesn't reset the system, so you're just stuck driving a normal 2ws lude=boring. jk guys. It's very noticeable in reverse, but the part I love about it is doing 100mph down a curvy country back road while only having to turn the steering wheel less than an inch in either direction and still keeping it between the lines cleanly.

It doesn't shut off, it does, however, determine how fast your going and how much the rear needs to compensate. So if you're just changing lanes or merging it will turns the wheels in the same direction as the front to pretty much "slide sideways" into the lane. They[Honda] might have put that control into the 4WS ECU for the later models...but I've a first year electronically controlled 4WS.
