All right I am going to give you my two cents. Take it however you want.
Lowering springs are the suck. I am just now learning this the hard way. If I had the knowledge I knew now, I would never have got my Eibach Pro-Kit.
Here is what I suggest to you. If you have the money to buy wheels and lowering springs, save it for now and instead buy a set of coilovers. Ask anyone and they will tell you that suspension should be your first modification and they are all right.
Here is my plan for you. Ditch the lowering spring idea and hold off on the wheels for a bit. Start off by getting Tanabe Sustec Pro S-S Coilovers (http://www.tanabe-usa.com/coilovers/s-s.asp) or something of the sort. Then down the road pick up your wheels. If you are not dead set on making your car "look" good before it performs good, I can not suggest any better idea than this.
Once you get to the wheels, here is all you need to know. If you plan on going fast, stick with the 16's. If you want to "look" good, go with the 17's.
The end.

^^^ he speaks the truth on both points. i went through the same pains he did with lowering springs (eibach pro-kit to tein flex)... just not worth it in the end. i've swapped between 16s and 17s, and see the difference.
