Hi guys. This is my first post on this forum. Yesh I am no longer a Prelude virgin. I'm about to pick-up a '92 Lude Si with a H22A w/ chipped P28 in about a week. I was wondering if the fuel/temp cluster having problems was common in these cars??

He said he was driving and it would go on and off and now it is just not on. Anyone can give me any ideas to what it might be so i can know what I'm getting myself into as far as difficulty of repairs on this sexy beast??

It also has problems with the climate control. I guess when you press the back of it together it kicks the A/C on. I know this is a defect on ludes and I have someone that repairs these things for a living to work on it. Other than that it just needs some TLC from me.

I personally haven't been able to look at electrical connections, grounds, fuses etc.. He said he thinks there is a loose connection somewhere on it. Is this common?? I wouldn't think that the cluster would be able to have enough pull to pop a fuse. Of course if anything shorts it can pop a fuse. The thing is that the Diagnostic lights work such as the CEL, ABS and such. Could it just be the cluster?

And is there a way to just change over to mechanical to get away from the digital stuff that anyone knows of?

Ok to make a long story short, my cousin cut ALL the wires for my fuel pump, and a few that weren't for my pump, not sure what they were for, but I fixed them. When it gets REALLY cold outside those two gauges dim and flicker on/off very rarely. Check the wiring behind the back passenger seat and make sure it looks untouched, if it doesn't, figure out where it's effed up and fix it. That's my best guess. Good luck friend.

Thanks. Anyone else have any input?? Has anyone known people to convert to something other than the stock setup?? I like the stock gauges, but if they are a constant hassle why not just change over?

They aren't a constant hassle. I've very rarely heard of the gauges in Preludes not working. If it's not the wiring like I said, just replace the gauges with OEM ****. I personally love the gauges, it's part of the allure of driving this car lol.

digital gauges FTMFW. thats what makes our cars so damn unique, cuz there's not a single car out there with a dash like ours.

the fuel/temp gauges are a common problem among our cars, i just forget what the solution is. i'll see if i can find it.

the climate control as well is also a common problem, and has a relatively simple solution of just resoldering the connections on the back of the climate control board.

Yeah I've heard of climate control being a problem a lot, but before this I've never heard of anyones' gauges taking a dump. But yeah, they kick ass, don't go mechanical.

check all your wiring and connectors for the gauges, and the grounds in the engine bay. there should be 3 green connectors on the top of the gauges.

Well here's the thing. I just sold my 94' Accord. To get this car.. So that has to say something. I fell in love with this 4th gen Lude BECAUSE of the dash. And reading up how easy it is to change the color makes me want to keep the digital even more. Just I know how capacitors and resistors are. They go out after time, and people will only be able to get out cheap with used parts for so long. Just the cluster costs $300+ from the dealer. And I can't find it new anywhere else. And I def want to be able to see my Temp and Gas amount duh!!

And don't get me wrong.. This car is mad sexi. I will get pics of it as soon as I buy it off the guy.

Also, How is the Tach hooked up on this car? Is it electrical or cable? Because when they swapped the motor they put an aftermarket one in. The OEM one sits tached out.. lol Did they just forget to hook it up or can you only go one or the other?

Btw.. I don't like what honda did with the 5th gen.. They killed the dash and the front end.. It looks so... submissive. The 4th is best looking IMHO. Looks so mean omfg!!!

Ahh.. was driving today and it flickered on... At this point I think it's either a connection or, isn't there a capacitor somewhere?? Is the capacitor replaceable?

+1 Connection. Check yo wires dood! But I'm not sure about capacitors. I just looked at the wiring diagram for the gauges and it gave me a headache so I can't help you there. But I'd definitely check for a losse connection somewhere.

My clock doesnt come on when its hot outside =/

whenever I go over a bump or car vibrates, my dash gets brighter/darker
