I know that when putting a H22a1 Head on a H23 block it is very simple and pretty much is just a straight foward, take off H23 head then bolt on the H22a1 head.

I know that the H23 and H22a4 head can be done, but how much harder is it, what else needs to be done?

there's a good bit more to it than just taking one head off and slapping the other on. Not to mention that you are dropping the compression considerably by adding the h22 head which has a larger combustion chamber. Good for boost, not so good for anything else.

just for clarification I do have a 1995 SI, I would like to get a hold of an H22A1 head but I cant seem to find any locally, and I have already come across three H22A4 heads, I really should wait it out, but I'm just be anxious, anyway is it relatively hard?

just remember that just because you have an H22 head, doesn't mean the redline of your motor is the same as an H22. its still the stock H23 redline, for clarification.
unless of course, you get the entire H23 bottom end fully balanced.

So given all of the work to put on a H22a1 Head onto a 1995 H23, how much ADDITIONAL work needs to be done to put on a 1997's H22a4?

its the same thing other than the fuel injection and spark distribution setup.
