Hello, I have been lurking on the site since I have recently purchased a '98. I have been looking at the stickys and searched, but I have a concern with the auto trans. When going slower speeds or in traffic, the car feels jerky shifting in the lower gears. Also, when coming to a stop light for example, it feels like the car jerks just before I completely stop. Would this be an issue, or is it no big deal? Thanks for your responses in advance.

Mine does both of them. Just keep fresh fluid in it and it should be right.

didn't your mother teach you nice manners! how about you introduce yourself and tell us about the lude. tell us who you are and then ask for help....
i'd say the biggest problem is that it is an auto! JK
you and colin should do a 5spd swap asap! LOL

yea thats very typical of any honda tranny. its no indication of it going out. i had an 88 accord with 120k and it was very jerky. at 240k its still doing the same thing. original tranny. the reason it jerks so much when you stop is because when you slow down it goes from 4th to 3rd at 21mph and it completely skips 2nd and goes into first when you get down to like 3mph. if you manually down shift into 2nd at like 10-15 mph it won't jerk so much.

^^yea my prelude and my moms accord are jerky when they shift. you can soften it by adjusting(tightening) the throttle/transmission cable but i wouldnt mess with it

Thanks for the responses. I just wanted to make sure its nothing like the issues the 1998 accord seems to have with the trans. For a quick intro, I'm from the Chicago area and picked up my '98 with 100k about 3 months ago. It was time for me to move on from my '85 300zx Turbo and have been looking into ludes for awhile. Only repair I had to make so far was a sway bar link b/c I kept hearing the pop when I made certain turns, but besides that I love the car. Again thanks for the help.

I agree.
Our old Accord did it, Our first prelude did it, My Acura CL did it, My Acura Integra did it, and my prelude now does it.
fresh fluid= u'll be straight.
I've always heard Honda auto tranny are a bit jerky at idle, even in the old accords my friend had one and at the light all the change in his ash tray would rattle like crazy. Plus it would surge a lot sitting at the light, so I think its no big deal, but yes I would do regular maintenance on it just in case the previous owner didn't, (filter and fluid changes)
For a quick intro, I'm from the Chicago area being from the chicago area, and from your name, i'm guessing you're a white sox fan eh? but where's the 'H' in wHite?

Couldn't get a screen name back in the day with the "h" been minus the h for years...
