they seem awfully cheap to replace 2 ball joints that i need and every other one on the front end.

hell the dealer wanted $318 for the driver side upper control arm alone. (yea right)

should i be concerned with the structural integrity of them?

I dotn care if the boots rip in a year and I gotta pick up another set... I just wanna make sure some **** isn't gonna break and end up snapping the whole knuckle off the car like the guy i mentioned in this thread:

http://www.preludezone.com/showthread.php?t=11929

another question:

While I'm comfortable obviously with replacing the upper control arm and the tie rod end, I'm not too sure I should tackle pressing the new ball joint into the LCA.

If i were to buy these, where could I take the spindle/new ball joints for them to put them in it for me? any suggestions?

i'm 99% positive i got my stock replacement UCA and LCA's from that company, "best suspension", for even cheaper than that. i'm pretty sure i got each for $45+ s/h, and haven't had a single problem with them thus far.

hell, keep searching ebay, i'm sure you can find plenty cheaper than that.

turns out this place is like right down the road from me, i e-mailed the ebaystore to see if they allow pickup, (even if i have to pay the shipping) i'd rather pick them up so i can get my conversion wrapped up.

but the quality being decent or at least safe is what I'm mostly concerned with so thanks.

Well first of all, 5luglude is a known scammer on pp. 2ndly, the link you provided for the UCA include the tie rod ends. You can get the UCA's for 125 shipped I believe from the same buyer. I need to pick those up too because my boots are torn. I'm probably going to get them the same time I get my tein h.tech springs and tokico illuminas.

yea they were so cheap i was toying with the idea of replacing them now while i have everything apart. i'm intsalling my illuminas and ground controlst he same time i'm doing my conversion so I dont anticipate having to go back in there for quite some time. and i certainly dont wanna have to do it just to replace torn boots in a few months.

also rear ball joints. where do I pick some of those up? i only see front UCA's on ebay.

I need the rear ones.

and the ball joints on the rear spindles, can I just buy an extra set of front ball joints to use on the lower rears? are they same?

the press is really easy to use. just slide the socket over it. and start twisting. It'll start to press it into the knuckle

alright so i jsut got home and confirmed which ball joints i'm gonna have to replace/would like to replace

Front Driver: Upper Lower and Tie Rod -- check
Front Passenger: Upper and Tie Rod -- Check

But for the rears, I dont know where to get these ball joints or what exactly needs to be replaced. if someone can help me find new ones on e-bay and post links I'd appreciate it greatly:

Rear driver side Upper, Lower, and tie Rod
Rear passenger side: Upper, and tie rod

While we've covered the front in this thread, we haven't really discussed the rears.

I'm sure for the upper I'll have to replace the whole control arm including the ball joints. Can I find any new ones on ebay or am i gonna have to go with used ones?

The lower one, can I just buy front lower ball joints ones and press them in to the rear spindle/knuckle? or are they different? please help me figure that one out.

I dont know if its the correct terminolgy to call the last one a tie rod, I just know what it looks like but im' going to need those too.

so any help with sourcing the rear ones would be seriously appreciated!

so how about the rear ball joints? do i need to get whole new upper control arms for the rear?

for the lower, can I just buy fronts and press them into the rear kuckle the way I can the front?

you can get ones to press in for the rear but I cant find them on ebay. You'll probably have to go to advance auto and they'll order it for you. i dont know about the lowers though

just to clarify what i'm looking for---- here----

what is the technical name for the part labled #2?

I know that 1 = upper control arm.

would 3 be considered a lower control arm? no right? just lower ball joint?

yea this is the same as # 2...rear camber arm...i guess that little ball joint piece is just called rear camber arm ball joint?

3 is the lower ball joint

alright so I ended up winning an auction from best suspension that includes basically both inner and outter tie rods upper control arm and lower ball joint for both driver and passegner front sides.

I'm still not sure what to do for the rear.
Discount auto parts has the two rear lower ball joints for $34 each which is expensive (now that i'm spoiled with the cheap ebay prices) so I'll probably go with that. but for the upper rear ball joints they want $99 a piece.

The only place I can find the rear lower camber arm tie rod thing (i still can't figure out what the offical name of that part is) is the one e-bay link i posted above but its pretty damn expensive.

I wish these things were like standard sizes that I could just by some and press them in/out.

Oh wells the front ones are whats most important. I think my rear upper boots were broken a long time ago (before I even started this swap)

Heads up for anyone that may find this thread and decide to buy ball joints from World suspension.

they dont have the appropriate Driver side upper control arm. So right now I'm driver side upper control arm-less. I may have to get the one at autozone at 5x the cost. grrr...

Here is what they sent, obviously wrong---
http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h10/starbai1985/5%20LUG%20CONVERSION%20PICS/100_0026.jpg

on another note, the lower ball joints seem to be a perfect match, as well as the passenger side upper control arm.

alright and another question for anyone with some expertise...

the OEM one has a very sprringy action to the arm.

The new one is fairly loose, in that it swings up and down freely. you can tighten them down so that they dont move much, but I dont know which angle to tighten them at.

I'm not sure if that make sense, but if it does can anyone shine some light on how that upper arm i supposed to work?

Thanks.

my next problem---

I can't get the ball joint to sit still to get the castle nut on.

This is the UCA that I wanted to change but the replacement that i got wasn't right. So I figured I'd use tihs one temporarily until I can source a new one.

but like i said I can't get the castle nut on, (and i'm afraid I may not be able to get it off when the time comes too..

any suggestions? the ball just rotates.

I was told the those control arms actually have springs in them that make them like that but I've never seen them myself

well the new ones i got dont seem to have any springs.

anyone know if thats a bad thing?
