Hey guys/gals:

So I thought it would look sweet to paint the chrome emblem I have a gloss black color. Here's how it turned out, let me know what you think. I'm going to paint the Prelude lettering next:

Ha, just kidding, thats a photochop. But I am thinking about painting the emblem just like that. Thoughts? I'll post a pic when I finish the lettering (it's quite time consuming to make it look believable).

You should take the PRELUDE off on the bumper.

But I like the look of the colored emblem!

I like the colored emblem - and I agree with Steph, take of the silver "Prelude" if you do it, otherwise I would paint that black as well, if not it will look tacky

Black emblems look good with red, as long as it's all black. I think you'll need to either remove the P R E L U D E script or paint that as well.

Painted black w/ prelude lettering removed

Yeah, I didn't have time to photochop the "prelude" lettering last night. I was doing that at 1 a.m. I do plan to do it all black, cause the mix would be tacky like you guys said.

I'll try to conjure a preview of the lettering too here in a day or 2.

Here's a quick chop, the lettering is a little lower quality, but it saved me a good hour:

I would have, it just takes longer to give it that look. Keep in mind it's just a simple photoshop

hey you stole my idea, when i get my car painted i was gonna get a new prelude emblem and have them paint it matte black to match my wheels. i think it looks good with black lettering on the red.

Cool, so maybe I'll go through with this! Here's a couple wheels I'm looking at getting.

I'm trying to do a red/black setup. I know it's been done before, but it just flows so nicely

Hey, so when I take off the prelude lettering and the honda emblems, what should I use to adhere them back onto the car? Just some contact cement? Like so: http://www.drillspot.com/products/321953/Dap_-_Weldwood_00107_Bottled_Contact_Cement

actually, I think I'll use some 3M tape.

Brash22

Use the tape.

Painting in progress! Got a coat of primer on, gonna add another in an hour after I sand the first a little. Then let dry for 24 hours and add the black! I'm testing on my front emblem first, just to make sure if anything goes wrong that I can prepare myself for it for the back part.

let me know what you use when you put it back on the car!

is there a "how-to" on doing this? like what grit sand paper to use and the exact steps between sanding and painting?

Gah, messed up this morning and put the paint on too thick. Had to sand it down and restart. Just finished putting the first light layer of black on.

1. Use soap or rubbing alcohol to wipe down the emblem really well.
2. Sand down using 600-100 grit sandpaper enough to scuff the surface slightly.
3. Wipe down the emblem again.
4. I mounted my emblem on a piece of cardboard (so the two prongs on the back didn't get painted)
5. Prime 3 layers (about an hour dry inbetween)
6. Paint 2-3 light layers of paint (hour dry between layers)
7. Paint 3 coats clear coat paint (hour dry between)
8. Let it set for 24 hours.
9. Enjoy

Just carefully painted the first clear coat. I'll be up all night writing this paper, so I'll probably get all three coats in tonight and I'll let it dry for a good 24 hours. Then pics!
