View Full Version : Opinion: Re-paint with Stripes

Hey guys gals:

So i'm thinking about painting my '01 lude and I have a fairly specific idea for what I want. I wanna run it by the rest of the world first before i drop the cash for a high quality paint job.

I wanna do the Honda/Acura taffeta white color for my base and the standard Prelude Red for two stripes down the middle. I'm not thinking pinstripes, more in the 4-6 in. range.

What do you guys think? Sound good or just stupid?

Are you talking about Racing Stripes?

I never been a fan of them at all really.

In the 70s and 80s two thick stripes made the world aware that your little car was a force to be reckoned with. While I don't think it will work on a Prelude, I've never seen it done. But for some reason, against all odds it looks ok on the current model Fiesta, and all those who have driven it say it's the most fun you can have without dropping any more than $25k on a brand new car. Not bad for a little front driver

Brand new, under 25K, I'll take a MX-5 Miata. Call it a chick car if you want, but they're fun as hell.

To the original poster, send Oceanborn a messgae with a picture of your car and he can photoshop your red strips and you can see if you like it or not. Any plans for a lip kit?

you probably could get it to look nice if you took time and kinda messed with it for a little while..what you could also do if you are good drawer draw front end of car and then try checking out lines to see what you like. that is how i deciding my two tone.

But in Pacific Pesos a Miata (MX-5 as someone in marketing tagged them) is over $40k brand new.

We don't have Fiestas unless it's Cinco de Mayo.

For the US market, they just call it an MX5 now because people came to call the "Miata" a girly car. $40K though, that's a lot. How much is an S2000?

$68k rrp. 350Z is about the same. We get ripped off good and proper when buying cars I tell ya.

Example: 2008 Holden Commodore SS-V
http://www.caradvice.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2006/07/HoldenVECommodore20063.jpg
Retails at about AU$60k, and you get the LS2 V8, 6 speed manual, climate control, leather, power everything inside, rear park sensors and a spoiler that kills off almost all rear view.

2008 Pontiac G8 GT
http://images.drive.com.au/drive_images/Editorial/2008/03/20/usaDrive01_L_700.jpg
Pretty much exactly as above, but the engine gets the cylinder de-activation technology, and Pontiac's pig ugly nose treatment.
Starting price, under US$30k. On the exchange rate, we pay nearly US$55k, for a higher volume version of a car, that didn't have to travel half way around the world.

Had to say i have never seen it done and the only times i have seen was crappy job and the colors didn't go. It was a baby blue with 8 " yellow stripes WTF.

honestly... i wouldnt do race stripes. i prefer clean... shaved cars so ... any types of vinyl, stickers, emblem, designs etc on a painted area i think are yucky... (just my opinion not picking on anybodys cars here) i just like my cars like i like my women... sexy, fast, and shaved lol.

Why don't you get someone to fab it up with forza 2? I would do it for you, but my 360 recently died. RIP.

I'm having Oceanborn photochop me a rough idea, I'll post his work when it's done

My other thought is maybe do it with a vinyl sticker first, that way if after six months you decide you dont' like it you can peel them off without much trouble.

yeah personally i think that stripes belong on a lot of the american cars like the new mustang or charger but then again i have never seen it done on a prelude but i don't know how it would turn out sorry to say but at the same time it could but personally i wouldn't put any on my prelude.

im not a fan of racing stripes at all to be honest, especially not on a lude but it's really up to you because everyone's taste is different. the only thing is i'd imagine it would be something you'd get sick of very fast

i wondered how just one offset on would look but idk anymore
some japanese cars have the lines to pull it off. i dont include the prelude
although the sharp line where people seperate their two tones on is a good spot for a subtle pinstrpe ;)

no a fan at all broham! it's a nice classy PRELUDE and you are not an Italian Retard Out Cruising if you get my drift.

keep it red. the red looks fresh. if anything add some carbon fiber accessories some new rims. spend the money to go fast instead!
