Parts Needed:
2 male 9005 sockets
2 male 9006 sockets
2 female h1 sockets
2 female h4 sockets
some wire

My JDM headlights came with the H1/H4 wiring harness and sockets. So I only had to purchase 2 male 9005 sockets since I have the H1 sockets and the wiring. I got the male 9005 sockets from http://www.suvlights.com. The sockets come disassembled... comes as a plug with metal leads.

Cut the wire to the desired length. I kept mine short as you'll see in the pictures, and found it a PITA to work with. I'd say 3 inches is good to work with; more if you choose to go the correct route.

Strip about 1/2 inch off both ends of the wire.

Figure out how you want to wire your H4. The quick and easy way, or the correct way. Both routes work. The quick and easy way will make it so when you flash your high beams, the low beams stay on, and the high beams come on. The correct way is when you flash your high beams, the low beams get brighter, and the high beams come on.

Refer to the following diagrams for wiring, depending on the route you chose for step 3.

Put one end into a lead for the H1/H4 socket, and crimp. If you go with the correct route, you should solder the wires together before placing them into the lead for crimping.

Put the other end into a lead for the 9005/9006 socket, and crimp.

Insert the lead into the socket. You should hear a faint snap when it's locked into place.

It should look similar to this when done. Remember, this is the 9005 to h1 adapter. Note where the wires go:

The whole thing should be pretty straight forward. Dunno if this helps, but here are some really basic diagrams.

Quick and Easy

Correct Way

For me, since my low beams were retrofitted with xenon projectors, I only did the 9005 to H1 conversion. So I only have pictures of the 9005 to H1 adapter, the quick and easy way.

question: my H1 harness has 3 wires, but the 9005 and 9006 connectors only have spots for 2 wires each. where does the 3rd wire go to!??!

i'll have to answer your question with a question. :) read step 3 in the above, and tell me which way you want your headlights to work when you flash your high beams.

i'll go w/ the correct way, so the low's get brighter when the hi's come on.
you can never have too much light w/ the amount of deer we have around here

first, you will need two more wires (one for each side).

there really is no polarity on the h1/h4. but for simplicity, i'm just going to pick them for you. :) let's make white negative, and yellow positive.

use the new wire to tap the white wire on the h1 to the white wire on the h4.

now put the white wire into one of slots in the 9005/9006 socket, and the yellow wire into the other slot of the 9005/9006 socket.

now the red wires. you don't use the red wire on the h1 since that's your high beams. it just goes on and off. you can just pull that one if you want.

the red wire on the h4 will need to tap into the yellow wire on the h1. this is what makes the low beams brighter when you flash your high beams.

hopefully this all made sense with that pic above. if not, holler back. good luck!

alright so, just to clear things up....
the white and the yellow wire on the H1 connect to the 9005 connector, and the same goes for the white and yellow wires from the H4 to 9006.

then rip the red wire off the H1, and attach the red on the H4 to the yellow.

then just connect the two white wires.

correct?

sounds about right. i changed the diagram in the original to include colors.

red is red. yellow is yellow. blue is white (because i can't really draw white on white). the green wire is the new wire.

yeah i have mine wired up the "correct way" but if i remember correctly, you have to run the ground from the high to the extra unused prong on the low. this being because our cars work off a ground circuit.
