This is my first time postin pics so let me know if they work. Anyway I posted awhile back about the Lude knocking real bad. well I was taking it down to my girlfriends house to pull the motor. Well my dad was driving. well half way down she went antifreeze everywhere lots of smoke even though it was smokin real bad in the first place lol. Well ended up not doing the motor myself and taking it to the garage well I went out and got the old motor today so I could maybe salvage some parts and haul the block in for junk because it's pretty much shot anyway lol so here it is figured I'd show everyone. I know it ain't no h22 and it don't have V-tech or none of that fancy stuff like the newer ludes but it would still smoke some tire and if it was wet out it would burn them through three gears straight lol I know not too impresive but figured I'd share that anyway  garage says I'll have her back by monday but I doubt that. Slow pokes lol

damnthats oily, you should take that cam gear off and send it off to get powder coatd, and slap the powdercoated gear on the new engine!
RimersburgLuder

That sounds like a good Idea. Did you notice the hole in the block in the last picture to the bottom left of the manifold. Took me a while to find it and look how big it is lol Idk how I missed it

you could also rip that valve cover off, get it hot tanked and powder coated the same color as the gear, that would be very unique, if you cant send em off just paint them yourself but use a good quality engine enamel

I wanted to repaint the whole other engine you know oil pan, valve cover, maybe some new vacum hoses and **** but they already put the motor in so unless I want to rip it out again that will just have to wait lol. but the car needs repainted bad anyway as you can see from my sig lol. so maybe when I get the money I'll rip the motor out and have them paint the car and paint the engine bay and **** and see how she turns out but thats down the road a ways but it'll happen some day hopefully.

yeah, i was just suggesting the valve cover and cam gear because you can take those off of your old engine while the new one is in the car, THEN when you go to do this all, youve got these parts to slap on, if you want, i can paint em for ya. you have to pay shipping i can paint them engine enamel black for 15 bucks plus shipping both ways
if not do it yourslf, youll make off cheaper! just make sure you save useable parts off of that engine because they are MIGHTY hard to find now, 2g parts are super hard
concerning your ebrake,
I suspect that the cable came undone inside the car, mine had become very loose and didnt work that great until i tightened it. remove the center counsel and check the connection, if it looks good go to your rear braks and see whats up.
for the spedo go to a junkyard and find a speedo, i think you should be able to pick one up for like 15 buts, BUT make sure its the speedo and not the vehicle speed sensor first!
for the door locks, im not sure whats broken, do it not lock/unlock? or is it the switch, be more clear, may be going to the junkyard for that, if nto pull the door pannel off and see whats up, i recomend that before you go ripping apart cars in the junk yar and buying parts to find out that all that was wrong was that one of those lock cable bars fell off. those parts take a beating surprisingly.
PM me if you need any more help, id be glad to help all i can!
edit, im not keen to seeing things, but if that engine still has the carbs, take those off, buy a carb rebuild kit and rebuild them, its like fresh new carbs and you can put them on that pretty new engine.
man id have a beastin 2g if i had one :[

Got any color schemes for the motor that might help me out? I kinda wanted to do white on white you know white rims white car I think thatd look cool as hell. so the cars probly gonna be white.
Well idk the emergency brake still has tension and everything but if you yank it it won't lock up the wheels like if its sittin on a hill or something and I pull it and put it in nuetral then it'll start coating you can hear the brake squeling but I don't think its ajudsted tight enough or something. so if you could tell me how to adjust it it would really help me out.
I'm not sure the speedo works but I think it just needs the cable because it used to work then the cable fell out. and even when you put it back in it wouldn't work so I need a new one and I need to know how to put it in.
Well I remember locking them one time and couldnt get the doors unlocked from the outside with the key and Idk if it actually locked or not because it wasn't me that did it but my dad told me about it. So I just don't lock them lol
I origonially bought a carb rebuild kit for the carbs that were in that motor and never got around to putting it in to tell you the honest truth it looks kinda intimidating I mean I've done smaller carbs before since I also ride 4 wheelers and have to do carbs in them sometimes but them carbs on the lude just look so damn intimidating because I can't understand the directions in the bax and all the small peices that come with it but I'm sure if I cleared out a table and devoted a whole workspace to just the carbs I could probly handle it.
Thanks for all the help man look forward to talking more to you about this.

Follow the speedometer cable from the firewall. I just did this the other day and was thinkin to take some photos for a write-up. . .oh well
anyways you'll see it it's a lone cable with a rubber boot around it. Follow it to the transmission. You'll have to remove the air cleaner hose and crap cause you can't get to it too easilly. if you have a charcoal canister, you may have to remove some hoses. There's one large clip around the boot, fold up the boot and there's a smaller clip that's holding the acutal cable in, take that out, just be careful not to lose it, and it'll come right out! Just pull the cable out from teh large hose it's in cased in.
Apparently, greasing it up is supposed to fix it. Didn't work work for me, in fact it still istn' working. . .at all~ I cut my hands up pretty bad trying to do it too! bleh nothin new. I'll take some photos if you need. Buy a new one, if you get one from the junkyard it'll probably be messed up too!
The carburetors really aren't that bad, scrwe the tiny diagram that's on the hood and look at the service manual here on the website, ok what the hell they deleted my ish. . .whatever the mods here have something against me apparently. Anyways, we got some real hardcore luders that do some nice work over on preludepower.
Here's the shop manual. . .
http://downloads.hondatech.info/Auto/Manuals/Prelude/Prelude%202/62SB000.pdf
Once you've build enough guts and knowledge of the carburetors to work on tehm you may want to check this stuff out. . .
http://preludepower.com/forums/showthread.php?t=292838
The air box mod is kinda iffy. . .i use a cut out cardboard for mine whenever i wanna use it. I've heard that it's pointless cause you just get hot air. But try it yourself, teh carburetors sounds awesome!
http://www.preludepower.com/forums/showthread.php?t=198542
The door locks is one simple thing that now one has yet to fix. I've been coming up with ways to do it myself, and i've some ideas. . . ;)

Good luck fellow 2nd genner! Remember we're better than everyone else, they just don't know it yet. Ingenuity creativity and having your hands on tools to make custom parts is what it takes to be a dedicated 2nd genner, you also need a lot of heart cause these cars are a pain at times if you haven't noticed yet.

Yea the only problem I have with the cable was I was worried about getting it in the firewall plus idk how much **** you have to tear out to get the the back of the speedo to hook the cable up if thats even what you have to do???
I was looking at te diagram that came with the rebuild kit. I have the one prelude manual but didn't look in it to see the diagram but might have to check that out.
Cool tell me about your ideas on the door locks I'd love to hear them.
Thanks for the reply man I really appreciate it.

Yea see it takes real skills to own a 2nd gen all the other ones can buy there performance parts and such but it takes real dedication to make your own performance parts and such.

alright, remove the center counsel and follow the ebrake down.
theres a junction where theres two nuts that lock next to eachother, you tighten one and the other follows i ebleive, tighten it slowly and keep checking, dont over tighten as you can snap a cable! are your brakes still good? id sugest checking the shoes and rotors to make sure theyre alright!
for the color scheme of the engine
i sugest painting the gear and Valve cover red or the orignal black
red matches anything, but dont pait the car red then haha
black goes well with any color period!!

Yea I think the brakes are good I mean I don't have any problem stopping if you can tell just by that???
Red actually sounds really good what about like oil pan color and stuff I'd like to have a whole scheme worked out fr when I have the money alot less hassel you know what I mean?

haha dude, the emergency brake cables and your foot brake pedal are different. Chance are your cables are no good and need to be changed. I need to do this myself, i hear it's a pain cause you gotta lower the exhaust pipe and remove the shield. Course these cars are old so we'll have fun loosening old bolts from under the car. . .

You don't have to worry about taking it out of the fire wall or anything. The actual cable is inside a "hose" i guess you can say, and it comes out fairly easily.
I took out my cluster gauge and disconnected the cable from behind it. i dunno if it's really necessary though. The easiest way i've found is you gotta take the lower dash panels off. You just need your trusty #1o socket to do all this. You may need a screw driver. . .hmm i really shold take photos. . .anyways you gotta stick your head under there now imagine looking straight up from under the steering column and cluster gauge. ahhh i think it'll be towards the left, or the passengers side. . .and you should see the cable going to the cluster gauge, it should just pop right off!
You gotta pull the cable out from the other end though.
I bet you are sooo confused huh? haha

I know there different cables but they are the same brake right? I mean if the brakes work but the e brake don't then its the cable right idk tell me if ZI'm wrong but I thought they were both part of the same brake but just different ways to engage the same brake so to speak??? right or wrong?
Yes I'm pretty confused but get the general concept. I just need to know like how it connects to the gauge and what al needs to e taken off to get to it but I got the rest I think. Like does it just push into the speedo or is there some other way? and how does it go into the tranny I see where it goes in but I didn't think it just sat in there dosen't it have to tighten in or something that way it don't fall out.

The foot pedal is hydraulic, your emergency brake is cable. Think about for a second. . .now remember we have rear disks (most do anyways!) There are no cables going to the shoes right? Just the hydraulic hose, the actual thing that holds the car in place works like drum brakes. That's why the hub is so big on the rear, to have the mechanism for the parking brake! =D It's crazy i gues,s i just figured it out on my own, maybe i'm wrong. haha Eitherway you probably need new cables.
OKay man. . .the speedo cable is in a casing, the casing snaps onto the cluster gauge. Just pull/snap it off and you'll see the cable inside. Now on the other end, it's almost the same deal just there are clips that hold it onto the transmission. Just take those off and that comes right out as well. From this side you pull the cable out of the casing. . .
get it? =)
If not. . hmmm i dunno when i'd have time to take photos. but i'll get to it eventually. Good luck man, got any questions you can ask me or Tim here who's been awesome with his assistance! Aka Thomas97

my favorite prelude (ogsmakdade) has an awesome scheme, i say,
keep the car black, so you dont have to drip the engine, if youw ant to however, go for the 3rd gen granada black, or do a grey like Prelude85's!!!
as for the engine, paint
block,head,and pan a gloss black
then run a red valve cover and red cam gear,
red wires and a K&N red/black filter with a silver pipe, or keep it stock with the black stock intake (drools*)
man that would be sexy, black engine with a redtop and gear then a black car, gah gets me excited just thinking about it!

Do the base ludes come with disks in back? I didn't know that I thought that they were either mechanical or hydraulic drums. Well I learned something today lol. I think I should be able to figure it out.as for color I'm still not sure yet wouldn't mind havin factory grey but on the other hand white on white just gets me I love that scheme

the lude is your, but i do sugest black block head and pan, thats going to look great in gloss, a red top and a red cam gear will go great with anything you paint, hands down thats the best combo one ANY year lude,
damn, get some webbers hahah, VROOOOM :burnout:

I felt like I needed to come in here and post. Even though I have a Si instead of the carb'd model.
Dont worry man, I have the same problems. My speedo went out a couple days ago, and only my passenger door locks. And on top of that. My key doesnt work for anything BUT the ignition. And my eBrake doesnt work either. Which kinda sucks, cause I would think 2nd gen's would be sweet for drifting.
I've never seen a A18, just my A20. Thats crazy how diffrent it is though. Didn't think there would be that much of diffrence in .2 liters. :P
Love your car man! It may try to hate you and hurt you, but secretly it will love you back! :)

08-02-2008, 01:58 PM
That does sound nice the black block and head and red valve cover and cam gear. I wish there wasn't a hole in that block or I would just paint all that **** up and then drop that one in the lude but you know its ever that easy lol.
Yes they aren't to bad at drifting before the e brake went out me and my friend were out in it with him driving and it got around pretty good lol There so light thats its like nothing to throw it around you know.
I've never seen an A20 out of a car but just from the top they look pretty different to it is crazy but I think the carb and FI have alot to do with it because the back of the motor towards the firewall looks soo much different.
Prelude85
08-04-2008, 12:38 PM
The engines are identical.
the a2o is just an a18 bored to 2L. I suppose the heads are different to to match up the bore size.
Of course the huge difference we see is the intake manifold and lack of vacuum hoses everywhere! Otherwise they are the same. You can make your carbed motor into FI if you really wanted to though. I wouldn't wanna go through all that work though!
RimersburgLuder
08-04-2008, 09:32 PM

engines' cleaner than the last thats for sure! needs a vc paint job though haha follow the plan man!
im still for the black car though. black car and a red top engine would be sick as hell. make sure you get new metal for that rust, NO FIBERGLASS OR BONDO!

Haha I was getting ready to paint it got it sanded and primered and everything then lost interest was planning on getting a paint gun but never did and I wasn't gonna paint it with spray paint didn't wanna half ass it so I stopped.
Do I have to get the cover tanked to be able to paint it or is there some other way?
New metal? How would I got about doing that? I'm not a body person lol don't know much about it

Usually we just cut pieces off other preludes and weld it together. Possible some sheets of metal. ha i dunno, i seen people do it but wasn't sure as to what was done exactly.
