Track day prep...

Ok, i checked the forum and figured this would be the best place to post my question at. Im going to the track for the first time since ive had my car. I just want to know what are some basic track preparations that can be made to get a slight edge or just as preventative maintenance for a 2000 SS auto??? Ive heard of using an octane booster like NOS or STP, lowering the tire pressure to about 20psi...anything that helps slightly...and do i have a chance to beat a stock 2004 S2K??? Apprecaite any answers that can help me be better prepared...

sorry man but beating and s2k with a SS just wont happen. and even with a manual it most likely wont happen. lowering your tire pressure will help with the lauch. and weight reduction. such as taking our your spare tire, jack, strip the interior. good luck man

haha nope, prepare to be slaughtered by a s2k, esp if they know how to drive.
your SS tranny doesn't help anything either. your car will pull high 15's at best, and if the s2k knows how to drive, will be mid-low 14's.

lowering the tire pressure helps, especially since you have heavyass 17's or 18's which suck for drag. if you have your stock wheels, they'll help a lil bit with your launch. i usually play around with tire pressures around 12-15 @ the track.

stripping all the dead weight in your car will help. every 100 pounds is roughly a tenth of a second. my spare tire + 12" sub/amp/box is right around 100lbs for instance.

to launch... brake boosting will be your best bet, but isn't too nice on your torque converter. use the manual mode of the tranny, and try to stay in vtec during every shift.

yeah i have 17s, but i think they are about 14lbs each....and i already have taken out my back seats, seat belts, spare tire, jack, and the surrounding interior...i believe that was about a 60lbs drop....
