I've got an 89 Prelude S automatic which has been in the garage for a few years now. The problem lies that the hood will not open, and the latch is literally not working. The cable may or may not be intact. I have removed the lower half of the bumper so that I can access the underside of the vehicle. Doing this, I was able to reach my hand up and push the hood release. As I pushed, a friend assisted in trying to pry the hood open. Even with pushing the release manually, the hood would not budge a millimeter.

Has this happened to anyone else? If the hood is jammed shut and the latch won't even open when it's released, how do I get it opened?

im not familiar with '89s, but is it possible to sneak a wrench up there and remove the bolts holding the latch to the frame? Then, the hood should pull right up and your problem is much easier to work on.

If the latch is siezed from just sitting, maybe some PB blaster? Or other penatrating fluid to try and brake the latch mechanism free again? Carefull with it around your paint though.

And always remember DON'T FORCE IT, USE A BIGGER A HAMMER!
