Just brainstorming here but my freinds VW GTI when he locks his doors his sunroof closes!! I want this lol!
So heres what I am thinking I have some basic electrical knownlage and I was thinking how sexy would it be if when we shut off our cars the mirrors retracted and when we started them they opened up. I think that would look ****ing amazing!! Anyone interested in trying to make this with me (It can't be to hard can it?) Just draw some diagrams then make a prototype and hell who knows sell it? Lol
Or maybe my idea sucks who the hell knows

no your ideas dont suck man it would be cool. but im just here for moral support lol i believe it can be done with the proper wiring so that when the ignition is turned on they will go out and visa versa

I have a pretty good idea on how to do it
it would involve shorting out the wire that goes to the folding switch when the car is off next you would need some kinda timer that would reconnect the circuit after a set time (15 secs?) I just not sure how the folding mirror button works.
Just another way to brag about your JDM mirrors :p

well it would be wired sorta the same as retracting seatbelts

true i just i need to look at some wiring diagrams i look into that
the only problem is i don't have these mirrors but can you open/shut them with the car off/key out? That would make it 100x easier
this is my next project is retrofitting the JDM's then doing this I just wanna do it in one shot

What you'd need to do is have the switch wire go from the the ignition barrel instead of the push button in the switch. That way as soon as you switch the ignition key to "ON" they would fold out. In theory.

Stock they don't work with the car off. That's easy to fix though.

That would open or close them when you start the car but wouldn't do anything when you turn the car off.
I've actually got a small circuit prototyped that will fold/unfold them when I arm/disarm my alarm, just need to get it installed.

Wanna hook me up with a diagram? I just need to see how the button works
It would be pretty easy for a constant power source just reroute the power wires to one of the many always on power sources (or even directly to the battery) right?

The button just sends a +12v pulse to the folding relay. Let me test it first, if it works I'll post it up.

Correct.

How about remotes for electrical antennas? Same idea. Power on antenna up power off antenna down. Just flip it around.
Also would be a good idea to put a switch in there so you can turn this option off and back on. VW only open the sun roof when the sun roof was open before. Your talking about it opening off the use of locks or ignition. So the car would have no memory to checkb to open the sun roof or windows.
So on a snowing or rainy day one would unlock or turn on there car and in comes the unwanted weather. There is more to it then just motors. Try looking into mercedes and vw. They all usually have that option. And see if a retrofit of the circuit board for that is possible.
This is something I would definitly be interested in.
its a lot like the JDM folding mirrors but you need the car to "remember" if the windows or moonroof were open to begin with.
Justmy 2 cents

im not sure if it could come into play some how but....
maybe use the cars "closed door power" or whatever its called when after you turn your car off, as long as you dont open the door, the windows and sunroof are still powered. So, there could still be power to the mirrors after the ignition is turned off, as long as you dont get out right away.... just something that might help who knows

Yah I was thinking about doing that but what if you turned your car off and opened the doors quickly? The mirrors would close half way lol. Im thinking that my alarm system would be best lol just whenever I lock and unlock it
or wire it so that when my alarm goes off the mirrors go in and out lol that would be frigging hlierious it would be like the car is trying to shoo people away from itself
