Re: hood vent question

I found on mine they were useful when the water pump died and leaked coolant all over the exhaust, steam came pouring out of them. Apart from that I think they're just an aesthetic. They do let air flow right through them but IIRC there is nothing that connects into them. Could be to let a little extra heat out since the air filter mounts straight to the top of the carby.
