sunroof - seal question

This is an incredibly dumb question, but my son and I just finished painting his 1997 Prelude. We carefully disassembled the entire car, organizing all the parts so we could reassemble correctly. In the haze of the last several weeks I've forgotten now if the opening in the roof (i.e., the metal edge where the sunroof parks against) had a seal around it or not. I can't find one in our pile of gaskets and seals, so that's why I'm wondering if we misplaced it -- or it doesn't exist.

The microfiche shows a sunroof seal, but I think that's underneath the roof, and part of the frame assembly for the sunroof mechanism. Of course, like an idiot I ordered that set of seals...which I'm thinking I don't really need

So, apart from the rubber seal around the glass is there another seal on the roof of the car that it mates to -- or does it just park against the metal edge of the roof opening?

Thanks,
Chuck

Only one seal, the one around the glass, your fine.

Welcome to the zone.

Thanks for the confirmation. Man, I hope the dealer will take back these $70 gaskets...even if a restocking fee...live and learn I guess!

could just replace them anyway if you wanted to

True, but the one's in there seem ok -- and if I'm not mistaken it looks like a huge job to change them. These seals are sandwiched between the sunroof frame unit and the underside of the roof -- so headliner has to come out, entire sunroof mechanism...etc...

Maybe someone has done this job and can correct me, but that's my first take on it.

Ha, unfortunately I just bought probably the least-replaced part on this car.

Good news, I contacted the dealer and they'll take them back, minus shipping...

Thanks for the help with this

I was about to tell you that when mine is open all that sits there is bare metal but around the glass there is a gasket. I also have a 97 and it was painted right before I bought it. I do notice though that my roof opens and closes very slowly may be some adjustments I need to make? Might also be a weak motor?

The one on this car opens/closes pretty slowly as well. I greased the tracks and the closing mechanism up really good...seemed to help a bit.

Cool yeah, I'll give that a try sometime tomorrow, I spent the whole day today trying to get the wife's van door back on she ripped it off cutting the turn too close into the driveway and caught it on the fence (the door is one of those automatic jobs), the fence won. If you havn't guess the door was open and it hung up on the fence man how careless. Well she'll just have to be satified with that van for a while cause I was going to get her the new Odessey but not if she can't take care of the one she already has.
