You tune your car using a dyno (and some other stuff not sure what), i donno how hard it is to do yourself but your probably gonna need a dyno and most people don't just have them lying around their house. Now don't quote me on this but aren't piggy back systems just used to fool the stock ecu sensors and therefore not that great? (ie ebay chips)

I think With the ecu i think it will always try and get it self in to the stock specs unless you do what Emerson linked to. Some car's you can get the hand held tuners and DIY it but not ludes.

tuning your car is a delicate process...

most of this stuff is repeat from the post above but:

timing and fuel

you set your timing to be more agressive

you're adjusting the a/f to reach the point where the mixture burns at it's optimum so it releases the most energy, which results in you leaning it out.

the danger in this is that the leaner the a/f ratio the more unstable the mixture becomes and can lead to detonation

you can usually get a few hp out of a stock engine because of the buffer set in place by the factory and more and more as you increase the modifications to the car

you can tune by yourself without a dyno, it's kind of ghetto...

my buddy has an itr swapped civic with the works cams / pistons / valves

it has never seen a dyno, he just installed a wideband o2 and does pulls on the street, tuning using a piggyback...that car runs great, although he could probably get more power out of it if he brought it to a dyno

Blueridge Motorsports, my shop, dyno tunes with eCtune... you have to use an obd1 computer other than the prelude's p13/14 to use their program eCtune (the best one)... use a p05/06 from a civic, I believe you can use a pr4 and some others, but you have to "chip" them and convert to vtec (p28..si/ 72..gsr)... then onto the dyno for some custom maps.

The head mechanic has an h22 civic hatch with boltons (like my sig setup). Blueridge got about 45whp extra out of his car with only the tune vs stock p13...

Definitely worth it and apparently somewhat underrated. It will cost between $575-650 (ecu, chip, tune, everything) to do this right, but preludes can really benefit IF YOUR TUNER KNOWS THEIR SH*T...

i'm not too savvy on tuning. but after using the search function and google, i've learned a lot today. i'd suggest you try it too. probably ain't nothing that hasn't been covered yet if you take the time to search :)

did you even read the link someone posted above?

A skilled tuner could get up to 40whp, even with a stock setup... I'm talking eCtune, which my shop switched to form hondata and they like this new rom editor WAY better...

many people will and should tell you not to run some piggyback (vafc) system...

get a 92-95 civic ecu and get it chipped and dyno tuned... if you live in the southeast, go to blueridge motorsports
