LED floor lights....wiring question

weee sorry another nooby question

i got my lands on cheap led strips and i wanted to try em out as floor lights under the seats and floor...area. and i really jus want em as kinda courtesy lights, so only when the door opens. but im not good at any kind of electrical thing....

so i figure the best think to do is find the wires of the dome lights and just go off of those, right? so my question is ... how do i find those wires? and where is the best place to connect them?

thanks -_-
and pics would be awesome if someone can....

I would go right to the fuse box and take power from the dome fuse

Thats what i did on a trunk b/4. Took the (+) warped it around on end of the fuse and the other(-) to a bolt to ground it. Now it's a crappy way to do it. but wi will work. Best way toul be to tie into the switch wire but idk wear that run to.

^^^ tapping the fuse box is the best way by far.

Make sure your interior lights don't take too many amps to run off of the dome light or you may have to use a relay.

Re: LED floor lights....wiring question

I like that your doing but unless your driving around with your dome light on you wont have power and wont see it because the dome light will over power the LED. I taped mine in to the radio power, Its either a red or yellow (aftermarket connections) wire so that when the car ingition is on i got power. Red i think is a constant power and yellow is the power when the ignition is on. then just find a good ground like a nut or bolt going on the steel, whit this set up i have blue lights when i turn on the car. If you want to folow my set up i can get pics for you.

Re: LED floor lights....wiring question

I get what your saying but you do know that dome light will make the blue LED light not as visiable. Also you could do a 3 way splice before the dome light like when the wire start to go up the pillar, Then you would just have to remove your pillar to run your wire instead of going throguht the hassel of the head liner

Re: LED floor lights....wiring question

i see what you mean, but its ok. my dome lights are red LEDs, so wit the floor lights using a red LED strip, it should look fairly nice at night.

yeah so i was wondering how to remove the pillar, since this is my first time and I dont wanna break anything.

INT: Door Sill Installation
this diy is for the door sills lilmisprelude made awhile back. BUT the wiring is exactly what you need for this
this wiring solution is also MUCH easier and safer to mess with than going through the dome light

Re: LED floor lights....wiring question

and teh ancient post is reviived once again.. LOL! I love teh NEWBS!

FYI: your dome light is a negative trigger, which means the fuse for said dome light is always getting power... not what ya'all are looking for. Do go read the full thread that Ludezilla was so kind as to link you to. IF you are concerned about doing it right that is. -- just sayin.

A relay should be used as it acts as a switch that will accept a negative/grounded input to make it work. I have also made a DIY that explains all about Relay's. (hint* Look in my signature bar)
I would strongly suggest reading that so there is no confusion as to how and why relay's work.
