stick w/ the h22.

you can get a JDM h22 if california doesn't test for obdII, the JDM motor is OBDI.

if they do test, just get a stock H22.

it makes me angry i cant get 300-400hp legally, makes no sense but I am under the impression that California test OBDii. I am left sad and feeling robbed in a dark alley, I now know that feeling

Hey Guys...I have been told my motor is "on its way out", I have been getting P0301 & P1399 codes...after fixing everything under the sun to remedy that code...I have started to put out black smoke when I a flying around. My buddy tells me its "running rich and not burning oil", to be honest the car is running like **** and keeps throwing those codes. I just assume my friend is right and it feels fucced up..I am trying to use CL and sell that biatch, considering I just bought it in Jan., I will get another...like I have always said about my first gen. Mazda Rx-7, "throw it in the gutter and go buy another"...BUT if I can fix the car I very much want to not lose all the parts I have bought in the last month or so

I believe those codes have to do with misfiring. I could be wrong though.

well even then a misfire does not mean the motor is bad. a good way to see if it could be bad is compression and leakdown test

Hey wzup man? Sorry to hear that about your engine As far as those codes u mentioned, sounds like a random misfire & maybe somethin's up with the crank or tdc sensor, not 100% sure bro.

"
I have done the O2 sensor...cap, rotor, plugs, Chevron fuel system cleaner and I think that's all...I have the Helm manual and the motor keeps running...WEIRD. I am getting smoke when accelerating hard but only on occasion, sometimes I will push the car hard and no smoke at all and sometimes its black and ALOT of it. I really like this car but am not wealthy and don't know what to do...I am going to clean the IAC asap...all recommendations are AWESOME. I know what the codes mean I just have no idea how to fix...I have a weird feeling i blew a ring on the piston but and still holding compression for now...I think I will try to get a leak down & Compression test ASAP as well. I do appreciate ALL your input and time...Cheers!!!

I would do the checks and if you still are sure you want to get a new motor just search the Internet for a new H22a, I think it is one of the best Honda motors beside the K's. I also thought that you can only swap engines from the same or earlier year models for your car in Cali, so wouldn't you need another H22a.

it wont pass smog because the code reader that I have shows me that the Oxygen and Evaporative System monitors will not get a OK codes during diagnosis check after clearing the ECU/flashing the ECU...if I could smog I would sell and buy another.
