Icon7 Prelude Purchased Today

Fellow Prelude Fans,

I took the plunge today and purchased the Prelude that I have been talking about the last two weeks! I was a bit scared to buy a car with 167,000 miles but I did it anyway. I hope I have not purchased a money-pit!

This is my first Honda ever;I have driven domestic autos almost exclusively. I am hoping it turns out to be a good buy for me.

Here is the link to some photos of the car I took before I took delivery.

Wish me luck.

OGS,

I added a link to my post to include photos of my Prelude. It is a 1997 Type SH.

I'm sort of in the same boat as you. I found a gorgeous 98 that looks immaculate. It has a 170,000 miles on it.

Preludeboy95,

I paid $2,600 for the car. I hope I got a good deal and did not pay to much money for the car.

great deal man! you'll love it, especially the VTEC. Oh and unless you like dealers stickers, take that sticker off the trunk then it will be so sleek.

Dealer Sticker

Tech,

Thanks man!

Now that the car is mine the dealer sticker will be off very soon! I hate to advertise for free and like you I prefer the sleek look.

Does anyone know if the Type SH badge is still avaliable from Honda?

Seen the Lude nice find. That is a good price, only thing you said its an auto? I have heard some good and some bad things about the autos. You may have to put some money into the tranny but at that price its still a steal.

Congrats.

Rob,

Thanks! No, my Prelude is a 5 speed manual Type SH not an automatic transmission.

Transmission Choice and Paint

Rob,

I do not think I would have purchased the Prelude if it were an automatic. I looked at several used Preludes and almost all were autos. Since it is a sporty type car and I have an automatic tranny in my daily driver I wanted a 5 speed manual in a Prelude. I also wanted a Type SH and that is what this car is.

I took the Prelude to a body shop yesterday right after I purchased the car. I work with the body shop's manager's wife and I think he will treat me right. He is going to give me an estimate Monday for fixing the peeling paint on the driver's side rear bumper. I also want him to blow some pressurized shop air down all four moonroof drain tubes just to make me feel better. I don't want any water leaks from the moonroof.

Not a bad idea as my 2nd Gen leaked from the Sunroof/ Moonroof. Had a heck of a time getting it unclogged.

Yeah I too looked at about a dozen or more Preludes but I got the S (base) model. I did look at the SH about three of them and all three had salvage titles. Seems those SH's like to be driven fast, all most too fast.

Could be why so many more of them have salvage titles than the base models. Most of my test drives of the SH's I didn't want to take it to the extreme so I didn't really get to experience first hand the difference between the two so maybe its better I don't know so I wont want one.

Again great find and at that price $2,600 did you say?

Well just to let you know I bought my 97 base last fall for $5000 with 140K so yes you got a heck of a deal.

Rob,

I paid $2,600 for the car. The first time I called the owner he told me the price was $3,500. I talked with him about four times over two weeks and I gradually got him down to the $2,600 price.

I ran a Carfax and it showed the car to be a one owner car with no reports of any body damage.

I would have purchased this car if it were not a Type SH since it was a 5 speed, one owner with no body damage and no modifications except for the muffler.

I think I got a good deal as long as it does not turn into a money pit. I know the clutch is weak so I figured a clutch replacement into my purchase price.

I would love to add another to my collection.

I'm afraid you have found a great deal and will never need to sell and you will have the extra cash to fix it up. You got that one $2,400 less than what I bought my 97 Base for. I'm still jealous plus I talked the owner I bought mine from down from $6,000 to $5,000.

I believe the SH badges are still available from Honda, just check out your local dealer and if they dont have it in stock they can order it with like 4 bucks shipping.
