P301 and P1399 error code

hey all i have a 01 prelude i got from a dealer near me and it seems to have two codes present i talked to some freinds of mine that deal with hondas they say i need new fuel injectors and need to get the AEM fuel rail out. this car has the works.. lowered suspension only 71k on the car meugen headers to exsaust u name it has aem intake i wanted to see if i should get anything done. the car keeps like bucking in first gear when i hit it hard/ or punch it. its tiptronic not manuel and the code reads misfire . i passed inspection because i think it was from the new battery and didnt read the code. some one help me before the dealer has to put stock parts back into my car i dotn want to downgrade either.. the car may need to be dynoed or tuned it has a apex dial that shows everything i need to learn how to use it. its very confusing but if someone car tell me whats wrong thanks...

do a tune up plugs,wires,cap rotor, clean egr valve and system just a few things to try

P0301 through P0304 are cylinder misfires

according to Honda these are the possible causes:

Fuel Injector Clogging, fuel leakage, air leakage
Fuel injector circuit open or shorted
Injector Resistance Malfunction
Ignition Wires open, leaking
Distributor malfunction
Compression Low
Valve Clearance out of spec

You should clear your ECM and then swap the plug from the problem cylinder (in your case cylinder 1) with one that isn't giving you a misfire code (any other cylinder)

Start it up, if you still get a code on cylinder 1 then you know that it wasn't the spark plug

If you get a code in the cylinder that you put cylinder 1's plug into then you need new spark plugs, replace them and see if you get any more codes after you clear the ECM

if you still get codes then you might want to consider the same procedure that I just described except with your fuel injectors

if you still get misfires then you're going to want a compression test and a leak-down test



P1399 : pretty sure that this is a random or multiple misfires code...this makes me think that you have a bad connection on your cylinder 1 injector, you might want to check resistances

well i went back there and they bought me a stock fuel rail and stock fule injectors the ones that were in were all after market parts they are hooking me up with that.. when i drive the car in like first or second it makes like a misfire its hard to say.. it so calles like kicks back per say and it pushes for more power i was thinking its the spark plugs but i mean the car is basically all tuned

ummmm, what RPM are you at when it "kicks back"

also, are you throwing any more codes now that they put those new parts on?

im not to sure maybe like 5k it sounds like its from the exsaust or something then yesterday i was dirving maybe in second and it like pushes for power and like goes back and forth its mad wierd the check engine light started blinking and im like >>>>>>??? wtf .. na just the two codes i did some reseach and i think its the injectors i mean the car def needs to be tuned..

I think someone else had the same problem too. He changed Cap, Rotor, plugs, wires, thermostat, changed the coolant, hoses and still had the problem.
B/4 u do much more do a tune up throw in a can of restore oil treatment and stp gas treatment. It will cost maybe 5 buck and could help it. and better then spending money on the new parts if it was.

I meant are the two same codes being thrown now that you got the new parts...

5500 rpm is when vtec engages, that might be the "reaching for more power" that you're noticing, but it's not really violent enough to cause a concern

also "going back and forth" are the RPM's fluctuating? does it feel like the transmission changing gears or the engine dieing?

well the parts arent in yet lol i went there yesterday as i said and thet need to get in some other part the oil pressure was reading on the AEM fuel rail about 45 which i think is pretty high.. i think it should be reading around 35 if that... its a little lower then that 5500 it drives fine when vtec kicks in but when your at a light and want to gun it in either tiptropic or Drive it sounds like something fell off im guessin misfire then the engine light starts to blink again.. so maybe about 3000 rpm im really not to sure ill check today when i go to work.. the rpms arent fluctuating but in a sence it takes longer for it to go up its very slow def trans changin grears third gear just goes down to like 2000 rpm off a start it stinks

i just want the car to be fine!! if you know what i mean it drives nice after 4th gear but i doesnt feel right. i told the techs at the dealership .. but they doesnt seem to get it...

is it just me or is this impossible to read?

sounds like you should take that car to the dealership and tell them to fix it or give you your money back. None of this stuff happened on the test drive?


From the factory service manual:

Misfire detection is accomplished by monitoring the crankshaft speed with the crankshaft position sensor which is attached to the crankshaft.
If misfiring strong enough to damage the catalyst is detected, the MIL will blink during the time of it's occurrence, and DTC P0300 or P1300 and some P0301-P0304 will be stored. Then, after misfire has ceased, the MIL will come on. If misfiring that increases emissions is detected during two consecutive drive cycles, the MIL will come on, and P0300 or P1300 and some P0301 through P0304 will be stored.

Possible Causes:

Fuel pump insufficient fuel pressure, amount of flow
Fuel line clogging, blockage, leakage
Fuel filter clogging
Fuel pressure regulator stuck open
EGR system malfunction
Distributor Malfunction
Ignition coil wire open, leakage
Ignition control module malfunction
Valves carbon deposit
Compression Low
VTEC malfunction
Fuel does not meet owners spec., lack of fuel

that is my problem i think it is the cat converter and it does blinnk for a minute or so

and i found out there was a leak that happened yesterday stupid pot holes do u guys know where i can get a mugen gasket for an exsaust system?

Yes, You are obviously having that problem...


As for the gasket...I don't think it's possible to get a new mugen anything aside from buying the whole system...what gasket exactly is bad?

the header is 2 peices.. not the one connected to the engine but the one below that it had 2 holes.

My car also HAS the codes, P0301 and P1399...and have not done the valves or a compression test yet. I have been noticing that when I drive faster then normal (mob fast as hell) there is light smoke from the back of my car (exhaust) when I look back at the car I am pulling away from. I have a horrible feeling that my motor is going to BLOW UP!!! Also I am afraid to drop anymore money in parts til I do the valves and compression test. If and only if the motor is bad...it may be a sign to build a motor in the garage, I.E. piston, rods, and so on. My car is running like **** and it makes me so sad...I see you said "I just want the car to be fine!!" and think I said that myself in one of my posts...I think we both have BAD motors and were robbed by whom we bought our cars from...we need to go back and beat them. I have 175,000 miles, how many do u have?, I think its compression, when I do the test I will post findings but am not looking forward to having the bills for the parts to BUILD my dream motor. I hope for both of our sakes its just a dirty EGR...I have to clean that as well. Moving on I will read your posts and try to help...were in the same evil boat...the code NO ONE understands really.

hey man yea i go there tommorw the guy at the dealership is mad chill he is hooking me up with a new fuel rail and new fuel injectors so he things that will do it but im thinking if that doesnt work im going to return the car.. i hear u on all of what u have to say i just got the car noth even a month ago so we will see. i will keep you posted..

i have the same problem it feels like everything under the car is going to blow up but nothin is smoking out of my exhaust.. yet... i only have 71k on the clock. it cant be a bad motor.. well we should meet some time and go see if we have the same problems too

alright well short and simple i took it to the dealership again and they had all the parts this time.. i stood there and watched the guy put the injectors and fuel rail in .. took less then half hour we chatted a little and after uninstalling the AEM fuel rail he noticed that he previous owner didnt know what he was doing... since i knew the prevois owner cause his info was in the car still i decided to give him a call.. he said everything was left on there when he bought it about 2 years ago.. the only thing he did was put the APEXi controller in it.. so i then realized dang it must be me then... so me and the tech took it for a spin.. same prolbem i told him what happens everythime i want to gun it per say... he realized it then he though wtf lets see if its the spark plugs... so we went back took them out and we came to the conclusion the plugs were crap.. and one of the spark plug wires were shot as well.. so after we tuned and put new NGK plugs in and jackson racing wires we took it for another spin it ran so smooth perfect.. they didnt charge me a dime and hooked me up with the old parts back.. NICE PEOPLE they were the tech hated working there and told me if i ever needed anything to just give him a call so i was like nice.. o and before we checked to see what other codes there were and there were 2 others.. both misfires in cylinders 3 and 4 bad!!!

I wish that were the fix for my car, I have already done all those fixes and still getting the codes...I am trying to sell my car...ASAP.

I am glad to hear your car is better!!! I need to get on my Other Honda...the 929rr anyways...ITS SUMMER right? I will miss my Prelude and thinking of just another after/if I sell.
