So what is the P1399 code? Sorry I quit working at AutoZone a month or so ago so I don't have the resources anymore for checking codes.

Wow, this is like the 3rd thread in the past week with misfiring problems

here's a thread where I posted the Helm's manual course of action:

P301 and P1399 error code

(it's the last post on the thread)

but if all your cylinders are misfiring I'd look at your ICM

the 1399 is a manufactur control ignition system misfire... not sure exactly what that entails but I've gottena a few ideas.. like apt_lude stated the ICM, ignition control module is lookin like a good place to start.. I'm gonna go get a used one tomorrow and see if it fixes the prob.. then after that my buddy is gonna check the timin if it's not fixed...

Well I can drop by the old store and ask the guys there to key in that troublecode it usually gives a print out and offers advice to check and replace certain parts, so I'll get that on the way home from work tonight and get back with you.

???? Ok when is the last time you had your spark plugs, wires, changed.

P0300, 0301 AND 0304 are random misfire. Misfire occures when your fuel dosnt ignite
301 cyl 1 misfire
302 cyl 2 misfire
303 cyl 3 misfire
304 cyl 4 misfire

Possible causes are insuficent fuel pressure or flow
Blockage in the fuel line or a leak
Clogged fuel filter
Fuel pressure regulator stuck open
EGR Malfunction
Distributor malfunction
Ign coil wire open
ICM malfunction
Excessive carbon deposits on valves
Low compression

You said you recently had your valves adjust who did them. Im betting your valves may be stuck slightly open after the rocker arms warm up and the metal expands causeing a loss of compression. I would recheck those clearences with the engine completely cold. Let it sit for 2 hrs. You dont have to remove the timing belt to adjust valves you need the timing belt on to adjust valves propery. Check those valve clearances and see whats up.

Valve clearance spec
Intake .15-.19mm (.006-.007in)
Exhaust .17-.21mm (.007-.008in)

The reason you arnt getting p0300-304 is because after reseting your ECM/PCM you reset all of your rediness test. The resdiness test for misfire monitering system has to meet its enable criteria before it will throw and misfire codes

The enable criteria for misfire monitering system are
Min Engine coolant temp of 15 degrees F
Intake air temp of 15 degrees F
Map Value 0-704rpm of 22kph
0-3008rpm of 21kph
Engine RPM 480rpm to max 7424

For any misfire DTC to set those enabil criteria must be met then it has to pass the malfunction threshold
The number of misfires versus engine rpm is equal to the info bellow
Misfire Type The Number of rpm The Number of misfires
TYPE 1 per 200 revolutions 56-90 times
tYEP 2 per 1000 revolutions 48 times

Honda dosnt have P1399 listed as a code are you sure that it is DTC P1399? I went through Hondas online tech site and I couldnt find a p1399 code

Also some more info would be nice. Dose it misfire at cold temp start up or after the engine warms up. Only at certain RPM. As much info as possible would be nice. Also is this a a/t or m/t

Okay this is what I found

We keyed in P1399 and this is what came up

Troubleshooting P1399
OEM Brand: OBDII

"glow plug circuit high side
---------------------------------------

Troubleshooting P1399
OEM Brand: Volkswagen

Definition
Engine RPM Signal TD Short to B+
Explanation
Open or short cicuit condition
Probable Causes
1. Check Egine Speed Sensor

---------------------------------------

Troubleshooting P1399
OEM Brand: Chrysler_Truck

Diesel engine
Definition
Wait to Start lamp circuit condition
Explanation
Key on for two seconds and the ECM detected a fault in the lamp cicuit
Probable Causes
1. Open or shorted condition
2. Defective bulb

---------------------------------------

I did not see anything about the Prelude, are you sure the code was a P1399? w/ an OBDII computer?

Plus it seems this code is pointing towards diesel engine cars or trucks.

yea like i said P1399 isnt comming up as a known code in the honda system when i looked. It is a Honda specific code set by honda, and it is in the ignition system so we know that much. I've looked in that sub systems DTC and I didnt find a 99.

Given that this is the 3rd thread in the past week about misfiring problems I'm going to go with the Lil Gremlins that come out at night, especially since I don't have any experience with this and have no constructive advice to contribute.
