Icon14 DIY Si-R door panels

Yeah, so who thinks it's worth it?
After watching Gearz this weekend, I think Imma go get some TSP and vinyl primer and make my door panels Si-R red and black to go along with my UGA bulldog theme.
Or should I wait and buy some genuines later... which will probably be never?

Don't know what the optional Si-R S-spec interior looks like? Check this out:

I just wanna do the door panels though. The rest of it is too much red.

Well, the plan is to paint the radio bezel black like the car when I get the trunk and bumpers re-sprayed. I might also do the plastic polish thing like they do on hardplastics at CB7tuner and do it to the center piece that would usually be covered by the carbon fiber thing like you had. I may go so far as to get custom floor mats with red around the edges but that's it. I don't want it to look like an S2000.

I think just the doors may look a little wierd, but maybe with some other red highlights somewhere else.

Take some pics of your doors and interior and I can PhotoShop it to red if ya want. Sounds pretty cool though.

It stinks that you don't want to do the whole interior in the Sir red. If I could find it, I would do the switch. I would love to see what the red interior looks like with my blue prelude.

I agree that it will be next to impossible to find a genuine interior...if you're going to do it you're probably going to have to end up painting it, or buying some red vinyl...I saw the door panels for sale once and the center console was for sale like a week or so ago on ebay...

I can get the genuine interior fairly easily. Getting the money to pay for it is hard.
If I chose to go the full deal, I could do everything except the seats myself and the common eye would never know the difference.
I've seen just the door panels before and it didn't look too bad. I'll see if I can find a pic.

ehh i think it will look too ricey. like the rice machines that have spraypainted dashes.

Thats one of those ultimate jdm things that only a few enthusiasts would recognize as anything other than red accents.

IMO i wouldnt spend the money or time

how much does the full interior cost? sans the seats, if I wanted red seats I'd go with recaros or s2000

I say DO IT. that looks awesome and if I had the time / money id do it right now. Either wrap everything in red vinyl or get the genuine interior. I agree with an earlier post that any type of spray paint probably wouldn't turn out so good. I also think that you should do the whole deal, rather than just the doors.

i say go for it, i would love to see what it looks like bc i have been pondering this idea for awhile now.

and hey if it doesn't look good i'm sure you could find some used panels for pretty cheap or somebody on here could.

I have seen someone with the full interior for around $1200-$2500. Right now, I am only finding the carpet.

a little too flashy for my tastes. If anything, use fabric. Maybe get some recaro fabric.

yeah that would be really nice, but could you do that on a 5th gen door panel?

Well, that was another reason for ridding myself of the 4th gen and getting the 5th. I like the fact that this car doesn't have fabric on the doors.
I may end up keeping it as is though. I got a quote on my car yesterday. I can get a tri-coat black for $1800 or standarf or about $1500.

yea thinking more into it i think its an all or nothing kind of deal, you go all out and youve got yourself a bad ass one of a kind prelude in the states, you go half assed with just the doors and you got yourself an aukwardly color coded somewhat car that some people know is a prelude by seeing the honda badges.

Yes it was. Sorry for the late bump but I've been gone from this form for a while. It appears that Si Speed and I have the same goal lol. Now to the pics..... It must be my camera becasue it looks a lot brighter than it really is.

The red in the middle looks lonely by itself, lol.
Well, I have the paint and adhesive promoter to do it. I'm still mulling it over though. I haven't cleaned the car out in months so I know there's no oily armor-all or anything on them, just pollen and dust.
I've been working lately on my wheel paint guide. I'm still on the first wheel, but I ought to be ready to paint it tomorrow if I don't drag ass around and it doesn't rain.

But if I do go through with the interior, I'm going to do the panels first, since they're the easiest. If they turn out good and I like it, then I'm doing the dash just like i this pic:

I think Imma get the carbon fiber trim kit after all though. Doubt I'll ever do the carpet, buy red seats, or do the center console but I think that'll be enough red to stand out and look good but not be annoying. I'm a big UGA fan so this ought to look good with the black and silver I already have going.

I plan on getting the seats and carpet + floormats. The side panels are too hard to find so I hope your's come out well so I can copy you. My cars gonna be Champ white with red/black interior.

So I did the back panels, turned out pretty good. I didn't tape up as good as I should have so I need to go back and scrape some off, but overall, I'm satisfied.
I'll get pics up later but Imma do the door panels next week, then debate on the dash.

I saw those but all I want are the seats, console, floor mats, carpet and doors (maybe). And 500 shipped for rears is expensive.

I found both the front anrear seat on ebay, but I don't have the money. I just want the seats, not the carpet and all, plus I have a CF overlayed center console still wainting to be installed, just need a vsr drill. It's either that or I am going to find a high end leather company to cover my seats in terra cotta leather(like bentley/porsche)with piping in black.
