New here, not sure what to do...

So here's the deal...

My girlfriend and I were proud owners of a civic we both loved. Apparently someone else loved it too and helped themselves. When the car was recovered, the perps trashed it...kicked in all body panels, stomped the hood and roof in and broke anything else they could. The insurance company cut us a check but we were in a time crunch and couldn't find another civic in our price range.

So here we are, owners of a 97 Prelude AT with a now slipping/slamming trans. Just from lurking here for a while I see a rebuild is a lot of money and, after calling around, see that a replacement will be like 2000-2500 in parts alone. Do we have any other options, is there really a market for an eleven year old car with a bad trans, how much could we get on a part-out, any resources for cheap transmissions, should we just scrap it and count our losses?

Is that really a good option? If we get it fixed we are going to sell anyway. We only need one car and are selling both of ours to get a new 4Runner. How much, including labor are we looking at?

I don't think a 5 speed is your answer if your just going to sell it as soon as its fixed. I don't see why it would be 2000-2500 in just parts. Wear did you go to get that? Seems a lil high to me.

This one on ebay is only $800 idk how good it is but..
