Type S and Mugen spoiler, can you measure a performance gain?

So I've been thinking about getting the Type S or Mugen spoiler and my friend bet me that it would look rice. I was like sure I'll take that bet and we texted a friend of ours who has a RX-7 and a Porche 914. I figured both of these spoilers were not at all what I would consider to be rice, I mean one of them is OEM and I don't think you can qualify that as rice to begin with. But infortunately for me he said a spoiler on any car that doesn't need one is rice. What the **** is that? So I tell him, "Look, I do 100-150mph on a semi-regular basis. Wouldn't you assume at those speeds that it would make a difference?". He responded back by saying, "show me the proof". Where the fell am I suppose to find that?

Does he know that air moving slower on the top of an object then under it creates lift. That why if you fallow a car driving down the road fast it looks like it has a lift kit on it. So any car can use one to help keep it down. the Koenigsegg CCX was made with out a rear spoiler. till top gear's the stig raced it now it has a top gear spoiler. now if that help out then why not an other any thing that puts down force will help end of story.

Correction: air moves FASTER over the top of an airfoil (or car) than under it, and the lower fluid velocity then creates a lifting force.

And no, you prolly will not notice an "increase in downforce". The fact that you drive 100-150mph is downright dumb and stupid.

Areodynamics starts to make a difference at about 80km/h, so 50 odd mph. While the differences at that speed are almost negligable, they are there.

The perfect answer to that "prove it" comment? (Feel free to use if if you wish)

If spoilers are rice, then why is it that the likes of Porsche (if you don't like Porsche, feel free to substitute BMW, Audi, Mercedes Benz, Mitsubishi, Subaru/STi, Nissan, Holden, Ford, etc)spend hundreds of thousands of man hours testing and modelling the effects of different spoilers, before they even get to prototype stage? Then hundreds of man hours testing in wind tunnels?

At the end of the day I seriously doubt you'll be able to measure any performance gain from the bigger wing - your tyres, the road condition and your driving ability will probably stop you from going fast enough to see it even on the most spirited of roads. On a track, it's possibly another factor.

Totally dude. We don't want our FWD cars flying off the road like a jet because they're just so damn fast.
