problem with the idle

Hi all,

I'm thinking of buying an automatic 97 prelude with 180k miles. I'm going to test drive it tomorrow. The owner tells me there are no problems with the car except one. He tells me that it revs very loud when it's on idle when you first start the car but it goes away after it warms up. He also told me that his mechanic said it would cost $400 to fix. Would anyone know what the problem could be? Or what I should be looking out for when I test drive? Any advice would be great help as this is going to be my first car.

Thanks all!

Ask him specifically, what $400. problem it is...

You should also run the VIN # to see if the Prelude had any prior accidents...

Thanks for the quick response. The carfax was clean. He was the 2nd owner and bought it after a 2 year lease. I'll be sure to ask him tomorrow what costs $400. One more question, what's the worst case scenario and how much what it cost to fix?
