They were a dealer option, they are not standard equipment -

This is what the US/Canadian fog lights look like on a 5th gen:

(That is Brash22's Prelude above)

& for everyone else outside the N.American continent:

...you should have a switch inside the car if you have the Genuine Honda fog lights, whether or not it's US or JDM...

The USDM switch looks like this (the bottom one)

The JDM swich is an upright one where my sunroof switch is (since the JDM cars didn't have sunroof)

if you are in the U.S. go to www.handaaccessories.com and you can order the complete fog lit kit. wiring, button w/ bezel to put it in. they only thing you'll need are the black shrouds that go around the fogs.

Fog lights are an option in the US, but in Japan, I believe all the Preludes came with them. Didn't matter what model Prelude you had

Now that you mention it, I've never seen a JDM Lude without them that I can recall.

you could do what i do..if you got the bezel with 3 switches and the change holder or w.e in the bottom..take your cruise switch out..press it in, install your jdm switch if you get jdm fogs..and there ya go, your cruise wont b activated but when you want to go into cruise just press SET on the steering wheel..you dont have to press the button cruise

Re: 98 prelude fog lights

all i know is that the top set is USDM and the bottom is JDM. USDM was an option and i think JDM was standard like Brian said

Re: 98 prelude fog lights

this stuff is confusing. it's progressed from foglight USDM/JDM to JDM fogs stock to why doesn't JDM ludes have sunroofs and then they do...lol

I have the USDM and JDM switch panel, but i chose to go with the JDM one. But if I hade to use the US one then I'd swap it with the dimmer one bc I dont recall ever touching that option ever since i bought the car. I use the Cruise once in a blue but more times then the dimmer switch!!!
