Newbie changing fluids... advice?

So I just picked up my '98 with 91,000 miles two days ago. It drives like a champ, but the previous owner never changed tranny fluid and I can certainly feel it. Also, he's running 10w30 dino right now and says it burns a little oil (as confirmed by looking at the exhaust).

My question is what readily available transmission fluid do most people use, how difficult is it to change compared to other cars (ie an S2000), and what oil have other people used with a burning problem?

Thanks!

Use only Genuine Honda Automatic/Manual transmission fluids.

It's not that hard for either Auto or Manual transmission Preludes, just download the repair manual(located in my sig) and there is step-by-step directions on how to do it yourself.

Oh and the oil burning is natural, these motors do that... Dont worry unless it's like a quart every 100 miles lol! -

Thanks for the replies!

I figured some oil burning is normal... my s2k burns a quart every 5000 miles or so. Do you think it'd be okay to switch to synthetic, or is that just going to make the problem worse?

Oil burning in the Prelude is very similar to the oil burning in the S2000. Both motors have FRM --

Of course, it's not just the FRM that causes oil burning; driving habits, severe driving, high RPM driving all effect oil consumption.

I dont think it's worth it to switch to synthetic oil honestly, check out this great thread:
