You will get better MPG with the premium, Plus you can get knocking with a lower grad of gas.

When I bought my 91 the previous owners had been running it on regular. It only got 30 mpg, and ran rougher than it should. After about a month and a half of running premium, I get 35mpg and it runs much smoother. So decide for yourself if an extra couple bucks per fill up is worth it.

The car was designed and tuned to run on high octane, so that's where it will run at it's best. I think you will find that if you run the lower octane fuel, the decrease in efficiency will probably wind up costing you more, since you will get far less milage per tank.

In the end, it's a sports car, and the premium you pay for ownership is the higher grade fuel. Hell, I used to put high octane in my old 91 Corolla, since I'd worked out that I got better milage out of a tank of high octane than I did from regular.

... with my experience with cars. If it says to run premium, run premium. Especially on performance oriented vehicles. The reverse is true for lower grade fuels too. Believe it or not, but some vehicles actually run worse on the higher octance fuels when they are meant for 87. I believe it has to do with pre-combustion. My buddies S-10 ran like crap when he put premium in it.

If you have a high rev engine engine like most imports and it doesn't say to run premium and you do you will get a lil better mpg. If you have a big v6 or v8 it really wont help. But premium does burn hotter so it help to clean an engine.
