Help!

I'm getting rid of my Tacoma (gas) and very close to buying this Prelude. My entire family has owned nothing but Honda Accord's and Acura Integra's and gotten 200K+ miles out of 'em all, but I don't know what to look out for in Preludes.

I searched around for a while and all I could find was to make sure there are no leaks/cracks/moisture indicating past wrecks and to check the timing belt and water pump. I'm going to take it to a Honda dealer to get it fully looked at, so I don't know if there's much more to it. But I figured I'd ask owners themselves...So, is there anything wrong w/ this year/model that the seller wouldn't tell me about? It's a 1999 base model w/ 84,xxx miles. It has nothing done to it except a new clutch, radio and alarm system.

Here's the link to it...

Thanks for whatever help y'all can give...

Man that thing looks MINT. The only thing i can think of is that they had a few proplems with the AUTO SS tranny. Since its a Manual i don't think you got anything to worry about. and they way it look it was keep up with by a good owner.

Nice lude! I just got a white 99 with 80k miles from the Dallas area (but i live in SA). It has given me no problems and it runs great. I too came off of a truck (98 lifted silverado 5.7L) for the same reason, (gas). The transition is taking some time since I was sitting 4 feet of the ground. But its def worth it man go for it!

Well, I only have two questions left since everyone seems too agree this is a nice car.

First, do these cars only run on Premium gas? (I know all cars can run unleaded, but if they require Premium they run like crap) Second, "TechForce" if you don't mind me asking...how much did you pay for yours? $8,990 seems like a lot too me for this one, but i'm not real familiar w/ Prelude pricing...then again, i'll pay it if it turns out being as clean and serviced as listed...

^^agreed^^ u can run these cars on any type of unleaded but with regular unleaded u get less mileage and crappy acceleration imo..

i always stick to shell v-power as it gives me best mpg and awesome acceleration even though i have to pay an equivalent of $2.5 per litre

Yeah it is suppose to run on premium, but you can use regular. Really it depends on if you want the power or not and also if you feel there is a difference in power. Some people say there is while other say there isn't. I paid $8,995 for mine (weird huh). This was the best one I could find with the mileage I wanted. The price is about average it just depends on how the previous owner took care of it.

First off, awesome find. Second, don't worry about premium. If you do the math it's like $3 more per full tank to fill up on premium than regular. Also, remember, it's a honda, if you take care of it, it'll run forever. It sounds like the guy who previously owned it took great care of it, so I wouldn't be worried.

$8,990 Is a great price... I'd take it in a heartbeat.

Alright, I went to look at it today...

The good: The guy leaves it in his garage during the week and only drives it on the weekends. It has a short shifter and a new stage II clutch, you could shift with your pinky if you wanted too. The car is cleaner than most cars at 30k miles and it comes with the stereo and I-pod adapter. He's already replaced the starter and battery. It drives amazing...it's tight and straight. There isn't a scratch or dent anywhere and he even placed a film on the lenses so they wouldn't get chips or turn yellow...

The bad: The "SRS" light is on...he said he's had it looked at and there's nothing wrong w/ the airbags and they work fine. I looked around the car and everything is original Honda parts...doors, windows, hood etc. so I believe his story that it came on for no reason and it's just a sensor...Next, there's a leak on the passenger side behind the tire. My buddy couldn't figure out what it was...it's clear and he said he thinks it's power steering fluid...but the owner said he didn't know of any leaks. Also, it needs tires...but coming from a truck that runs 32" M/T's I think they should be a bit cheaper.

Oh and he came down on the price...so all in all I'm taking it into the dealer to get inspected.

Any of you ever have problems w/ a leak from that area or have the "SRS" light come on for no reason??

Sounds good. It is possible that the SRS light is just a faulty sensor, so don't crash your car into anything forward until you get that checked out, because it might not be. But I'd be scooping that one up.

About the gas, you need to run the car on premium. The engine was designed to run on premium, if you run it on a lower octane you're going to decrease your performance and engine life. Anyway, I noticed I get significantly better gas millage on premium, enough that it makes up for the price of paying for premium over regular. About the car, I hope you picked it up already because that's quite a find.

It's a high-compression engine, you should use premium.

Yeah I know did he get it? Thats pretty low miles plus very clean looking.

Did he ever say if he was selling the Tocoma for better fuel mileage? Because someone should have told him that they get around the same, I'll have to check but I think they get close to the same. Plus you can but unleaded in the Toyota.

92 Octane here now is $3.75 a gallon and talking about going over $4.00 by the end of June.
