Water in Trunk

I was getting my spare tire out the other day when I noticed it my trunk had ALOT of water in it. Obviously my trunk has a leak, but with no holes in my trunk (not even a scratch in the paint) where could the water be coming from?

Well then how come everything else is dry?
There's water in mine on the passenger side in that little part in the corner where the metal drops some, and there's a LOT in the trunk. I hit the brakes the other day and it came pouring in and got my feet wet, there was so much. I was late for work cause I had to drain it all out and vacuum what got in the carpet. I don't see how it can leak THAT much water in through a tail light, especially if it's not been driven while it was being rained on.
My 4th gen did the same thing, as does my dad's 5th gen, and my mom's 2nd, 4th, and 6th gen Accords.

I think it is the tail lights. Might be from a combination of washing, rain, and maybe even moisture in the air. Everytime I wash my car or it rains or there's some fog my tail lights fog up, especially the right one. Never had water in the trunk problems when I lived in Vegas (hardly rains there), but now I'm in NC it's always happening.

Could it be the sunroof drains? Or is that a retarded suggestion?

Definately not retarded Brash. Weve seen some less than professional repairs on cars and some people dont put the drain back in the grommet going out of the car which leads to wet floors.

However, it is more than likely that it is the taillights leaking. The water that flows off the roof, back window and trunk all collect on the channels on the edge of the trunk seal and pretty much flow over the taillights. I too noticed this and after mentioning it to a buddy that worked for Honda for years IMEDIATLY told me exactly what it was...sure enough. There was a 3/16" gap that water was pooring in my trunk and you'd never know with out looking under the trunk floor. Use some clear silicone sparingly and fill the gap using your finger smooth it out. Very quick, easy fix.

The sunroof drains do sometimes leak because they clog and just back up into the trunk, so take out the little black rubber things that go through the wall and clean them
Could also be tail light gasket.
Could also be something with the antenna seal
Or the strip that goes along the bottom of the rear window has some worn out gaskets.
All of those spots leaked on mine lol.

colin that aint a retarded question at all.
those drains do get clogged rather often, backing the water up, then it starts leaking into the trunk.

Awesome thread. My car does the same thing and my trunk, where the wheel goes, is rusted to hell and back, i need to sand that and prime it and paint it before it rusts through...lol I do think it might be aheadlight gasket because one of my headlights has water in it when ever i was my car or it rains, haha excellent!!!!

Do any of you know if that primer that "seals in rust" works? or does it continue to eat through even though the Primer claims its a "rust stopper" i don't want to sand my entire trunk bottom =\

Have you tried changing those gaskets out E? At least put new ones on to see. My problem is completely solved now that I changed the gaskets. I've had zero water in the trunk, and it's rained quite a bit.

@brute you could also try a rust converter you still brush off the loose rust but the chemical converts the remaining rust into something that resembles primer. I just got a fifth gen. I went to throw my second jack down below with the spare and I found a small pool nothing looks too damaged though.

Nope not at all my 2nd Gen sunroof wouldn't drain properly clogged or something.

Also too I hear 5th Gens have a bit of a design flaw with the rear window, something about vibration noise or rattling. I suppose water would get around the gasket and into the trunk if the weather stripping (gasket) was dry rotted or worn.

This topic came up at the meet yesterday. There was a guy who said his problem was the quarter window. Water was getting under the seal, and leaking down into the corner, exactly where my water is getting into, then over flowing into the spare tire compartment, hence why the carpet and everything stays dry.
