5thGen/AT help

Here's my dillema, I couldn't find a manual 5th Gen when I was looking and settled for an automatic instead. I get SLAUGHTERED in the 1/4 mile and think it might be the tranny. Should I sell and try to get a manual or is there something else i can do to help me. It's a daily driver and has about 84k. I got CAI (K&N), (cheap) cat back and highflow cat (ebay). I'm about to install a Magnaflow cat since it's street legal, DC sport ceramic headers and N1 Cat Back exhaust. Need help here...

Some people tell me do a trans swap and some say it would be cheaper to just buy another 5th Gen. Which is better?

I don't think i wanna trade mine either but the auto shops here in NC suck. I'm yet to find a place that can do the engine swap. One shop I went to had the WORST sales person ever, he tried talking me and one of my co-workers out of doing stuff to increase horse.

I think I'll check the local junkyards for a tranny. What else would I have to look for besides tranny (flywheel, clutch) and pedal?

if you do the trans swap yourself, it'll only cost you as much as you can get the parts for, which is around $3-400.

yeah dude...i have an auto too....doing a swap would only cost about $2000-$2500 from what i was told..."after i got jipped for re-building my auto for the same price"....and im curious as to what car you beat you that badly, when you only have minor mods....ive beaten a couple cars with manuels(celica gts, scion tc,)....both with the same mods i have, i/h/e/, i have aem pullies too, but dont believe it mad that much of a difference...

I got beat by a VW jetta (V6) an 08 VW (200hp, turbo) a nissan (something V6), but worst of all......... I got beat by a ford pick up. The only thing it had done to it was straight pipes after the cat. It was a triton V8.

wasn't a lightning but he beat me by about 3 secs. If it was a lightning I'd understand but it wasn't. And I don't care if it was by 1 sec or 20, the fact that it was a big old truck with a toolbox in the back pissed me off, lol. I ran a 1/4 mile in about 17secs.

damn dude....that sucks...and 17secs in 1/4 mile, you should work on that too...lol...and that turbo means nothing, its still only 200bhp...our ludes are the same with 200bhp, but i think the torque is different...i havent been to a track, but timed my own run on a back road thats a little over 1/4 mile, and ran a 15.4...this was with a header, high flow cat, tsudo cat back, and aem pullies...(and the whole rear of my car stripped out)....thats about 50lbs lost so im sure that will help you out a lil bit too...

I know the turbo means nothing when it comes to the horses but when it comes to the torque he got me by like 50. He was running the 1/4 mile in 15secs. I'm getting ready to install the headers, highflow cat and catback. I still got my interior but only thing in my trunk was the spare.

well i had somebody on the line with a stopwatch...LOL...i dont think thats biased at all...i do think the 17secs seems really slow for the lude, even in the automatic...

Mine is the SS auto and I used it. I was getting better times by doing that than using drive. It redline's at 7k though so the latest i could shift was at about 6500.

yeah i got the ss....and i always use it...i cant stand regular drive autos...

really??? mine redlines at 7200rpm....and i shift right at the redline....why do you shift so early??? your losing a lot of power and time doing that

If you take your time as I did and find your on parts it will be way cheaper...I am almost done. I have no money in parts and I am selling my auto tranny. I found a parts 5th gen for 500 and parted it. For me my tranny didn't die the torque converter went. but either way. If you decide to do the swap as long as you take your time finding your parts it won't be that bad.

Ya i shifted at like 7000 that why with the lil lag it **** at red line that should make u be at around 16.

I try shifting at 7K but it redlines earlier than that. I don't know why it does that, but it does. Someone said that maybe there's a rev limiter (and I doubt that), but who knows?

yeah dude, its gotta be a rev limiter...if you cant even rech the redline, thats what it is...

i honestly dont know myself man....cuz mine doesnt hit until about 7400rpms...so i never worried about it...i would take it to a shop, and tell them whats going on, and that you cant even make it to the redline on your car cuz you believe their is a rev limiter blocking it to do so...unless somebody else on here can help you out...
